  • May perform snow removal.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Performs semi-skilled to skilled maintenance on various mechanical, electrical and carpentry projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Service work – able to determine and correct problems with a/c units, heaters, plumbing, light refrigeration, electrical, etc.
  • Preventative maintenance – check lights, doors, change filters, check over all types of equipment for problems and repair if any problems found.
  • Moving and storage of furniture – transporting furniture and equipment from one location to another without damaging.
  • Misc yard work, painting, carpentry, minor plumbing repairs and snow removal
  • Operate required vehicle(s) in a safe manner to perform required duties of the position.
  • Cross trained at all Mercy Medical Center Facilities.
  • May perform snow removal.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assists contractors and others in servicing equipment.
  • Computer/ data entry knowledge
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE. SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Have two (2) years experience in preventative maintenance and service work.
  • Valid Driver’s/Chauffeurs License required, must meet Mercy’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, must be at least 18 years of age and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS (Constant=67%-100% of work day, Frequent=34%-66% of work day, Occasional=33% or less).

CONSTANT

  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction while using power or hand tools, reading to work on equipment, etc. or to load/unload and deliver materials/supplies into and from vehicle.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm, such as holding on to tools – screw drivers, drills hammers, power tools, etc.
  • Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, such as turning screw drivers, drills, hammers, power tools, etc.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time. When doing painting or working on finished projects.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Using upper extremities to press against something to force forward or backward, such as sanding, running lumber through saw.

FREQUENT

  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees, such as when painting.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish task, particularly for long distances.

Carrying tools and equipment back and forth, getting around buildings.

  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. When moving furniture, materials or equipment from one location to another.
  • Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Driving: Sitting while driving vehicle.
  • Stooping: Bending at the waist while getting into and out of vehicle.
  • Handling: Working with whole hand to drive vehicle, to load/unload supplies, materials into and from vehicle.

OCCASIONAL

  • Feeling: Perceiving attributes to objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips. As when checking smoothness or finishes on lumber, wall temperatures of equipment or dampness.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instruction to other words accurately, loudly or quickly.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal range and being able to make fine discriminations in sounds.
PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS

If a patient is unable to function independently, a mechanical/assistive device and/or additional personnel must be utilized. If an object requires lifting > 50 lbs., additional equipment/personnel must also be utilized.

Heavy work

Exerting up to 65 lbs. push/pull (force to move frequently, and lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally, and lifting up to 40 lbs. frequently, and lifting up to 20 lbs. constantly, to move patient and/or objects.

  • Taking measurements, assembly parts at distances close to the eyes, and inspecting work.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
