Job summary

RTP Company in Virginia is seeking a Maintenance Materials Assistant to support the MRO Procurement team with stock room functions and inventory control. You will help prepare assets for shipment, update records, and assist with inbound/outbound activities.

The role requires basic math, CMMS proficiency, and strong organizational skills; forklift certification is preferred. The position follows a standard 8am–4pm schedule at the plant location.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CMMS systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication in English.

Responsibilities

• Assists MRO Procurement with stock room functions and inventory accuracy.
• Receives inbound packages, verifies paperwork, notes discrepancies.
• Labeling of items, updates to inventory records, storage locations.
• Process work orders for outbound shipments: repair, returns, stock transfers.
• Maintain 5S organization of stock room and maintenance areas.
• Participate in cycle counting; support purchasing coordination with local teams.
• Enforce storeroom policies and procedures; may assist in local supplier activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

The Maintenance Materials Assistant has the primary responsibility for assisting the MRO Procurement team in all stock room functions, helping maintain inventory accuracy and preparing assets/parts for shipment purposes

Work Schedule

8am to 4pm

Responsibilities

• Practices high level of service to both the MRO Procurement team and the plant Maintenance team to achieve company goals
• Participates in receiving activities (collecting inbound packages / freight from receiving dock, opening packages, verifying paperwork against actual deliveries, noting discrepancies, etc.)
• Assists with physical labeling of received items, updating inventory records, and storage locations
• Process work orders as dictated for outbound shipments: repair, returns, stock transfers
• Maintains organization (5S) of the stock room and other maintenance storage areas to optimize utilization of space
• Participates in cycle counting program as needed
• Helps enforce storeroom policies and procedures
• Materials Assistants in satellite locations may perform additional duties to support coordination of purchasing activities with the local Maintenance Manager and Corporate MRO Purchasing in Winona which may include parts identification and documentation, local supplier searches, obtaining local quotations, tracking, etc.
• Other duties/responsibilities as assigned, or apparent.

• Must demonstrate Microsoft Office proficiency (Outlook, Excel, Word)
• Must have effective interpersonal and customer skills
• Must be efficiency-minded, well organized, detail-oriented, and disciplined
• Must demonstrate proficiency on the use of the computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
• Must have a current RTP issued forklift license or be willing to take the test upon acceptance of position
• Attendance is an essential function of the position.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

Education And Experience

• High School Diploma or GED preferred or an equivalent amount of experience
• Prior experience with RTP production or maintenance department preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

Regularly

• Communicates via phone, email, in person
• Required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, and controls.
• Operates a computer and other office equipment such as a copy machine and printer.

Frequently

• Talk and hear to coordinate day-to-day phone and in person transactions

Occasionally

• Required to sit, perform keyboard work, for prolonged periods of time
• Lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and handle, with mechanical assistance, up to 75 pounds.
• Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, dust, fumes, airborne particles, chemical dust, hot and cold weather conditions.
• Exposed to moving mechanical parts.
• Exposed to hazardous materials as defined by the OSHA Hazard Communication standard.

Standard manufacturing and office environment. The noise level is usually low, due to office equipment, and moderate to high when in the manufacturing environment, due to equipment and machinery.

Proper personal safety equipment is to be used as required by plant safety procedures.
