JOB SUMMARY

The Maintenance Manager leads the reliability and maintenance function as a business leader owning the financial performance, people development, and asset reliability strategy of the Quality Control Center. This role drives the transformation from a reactive maintenance culture to a data-driven, predictive reliability model while developing a high-performing technical team, managing department P&L, and serving as a peer member of the Center Leadership Team.

The Maintenance Manager ensures adherence to all PJFS quality assurance programs, maximizes asset uptime and OEE through preventive and predictive engineering frameworks, and holds the team accountable to operational KPIs and standard operating procedures. This is a business leadership role that requires equal parts technical credibility, financial acumen, and people development capability.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial & Business Leadership
  • Own the maintenance department P&L — build and manage the annual budget, track and explain period variances to center and regional leadership, develop capital requests and AFEs, and drive cost performance without sacrificing reliability.
  • Develop and maintain a long‑term strategic capital plan that includes equipment replacement schedules, productivity improvement initiatives, and cost savings targets.
  • Manage all financial aspects of the department including capital project estimates, contractor spend, parts procurement, and payroll.
Reliability Transformation & Engineering
  • Lead the reliability transformation — architect and execute the shift from reactive maintenance to a predictive, data‑driven reliability model including FMEA, RCM, condition monitoring, and failure trend analysis across all critical assets.
  • Develop and manage the preventive maintenance (PM) program using a CMMS parts management system; ensure PM is performed safely and in accordance with manufacturer and PJFS policies.
  • Lead and participate in all major repairs, capital and maintenance projects; manage outside contractors as necessary.
  • Coordinate, plan, and develop contingency plans with the Center Leadership Team to minimize operational interruptions in the event of equipment breakdowns.
  • Maintain productivity standards by providing metrics surrounding key performance indicators; recommend ways to increase productivity through formal continuous improvement methodology.
  • Build and execute a technician development program — including skills assessment, structured cross‑training, performance management cadence, and succession planning for key technical roles.
  • Manage and develop the maintenance team and facility sanitation team members in a continuous improvement food manufacturing and distribution environment.
  • Supervise and train maintenance and custodial teams; conduct timely performance reviews and hold regularly scheduled shift meetings.
  • Hold team members accountable to operational KPIs and standard operating procedures.
Safety & Compliance
  • Manage overall safety awareness and performance in the department and throughout the QCC.
  • Ensure adherence to all PJFS quality assurance programs and regulatory requirements including USDA, HACCP, GMP, and OSHA standards.
  • Adhere to OSHA requirements for Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
  • Maintain organization and sanitation of maintenance parts, tools, and departmental area.
Cross‑Functional Leadership
  • Function as a key member of the Center Leadership Team; lead and demonstrate Papa John’s Core Values while ensuring daily business and customer service objectives are achieved.
  • Serve as liaison with outside contractors, vendors, and service providers as needed.
  • Lead and participate in PJFS system‑wide cross‑functional teams and taskforces.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering, or equivalent technical field experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience managing maintenance in a highly automated food manufacturing environment with CI/TPM discipline required.
  • Proven experience deploying reliability strategies, root cause analysis, and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) required.
  • P&L ownership required — demonstrated experience building, managing, and presenting a maintenance department budget and capital plan to senior leadership.
  • Working knowledge of USDA, HACCP, OSHA, and food safety regulatory requirements required.
  • Experience with pneumatic conveying, bulk ingredient handling systems, or dough production equipment strongly preferred.
FUNCTIONAL SKILLS
  • Analytical Skills — effectively uses data to generate insights for operational excellence.
  • Financial & Business Acumen — reads, owns, and communicates P&L performance to senior leadership.
  • Problem Solving — uses rigorous logic to solve problems with innovative, effective solutions.
  • Communicates Effectively and Candidly — informs and influences senior leaders.
  • Process Improvement — strives to continually improve systems, processes, and team capability.
  • Ability to Build and Leverage Talent — develops technical teams with structure and intentionality.
  • Ability to Work Cross‑Functionally — advances projects across multiple initiatives with a successful track record.
  • Adaptability — thrives in a fast‑paced environment and adjusts effectively to new situations.
COMPENSATION

$94,400‑$138,700

Placement within the band is commensurate with experience, demonstrated reliability leadership capability, and P&L ownership depth.
