General Responsibilities/Job Summary
This position directs and coordinates activities of the Maintenance department. These areas need to operate in a proactive and many times in a reactive mode regarding the on-going and efficient operations of the plant. Work in these areas include installation and maintenance of the electrical systems, plumbing, equipment and machinery throughout the plant, minimizing breakage and “down time” due to malfunctioning equipment, machinery or facility.
Essential Functions/Duties
- Oversees the inspection, repairs, installations, modifications, and overall maintenance of complex’s electronic systems, plumbing, HVAC and equipment.
- Oversees the repairs, construction, maintenance and mechanical equipment, machinery, and components for proper use and fitness for applications.
- Oversees repairs and maintenance of physical structures and grounds, as needed.
- Working with Production to ensure equipment is running and operating with safety and efficiency always on the mind and to prevent any unnecessary down-time due to mechanical failure.
- Plans and coordinates appropriate inventory levels for frequently needed parts to ensure availability.
- Maintains knowledge of new equipment/machinery available in the market and makes recommendations which will improve process efficiency and cost effectiveness.
- Meets with vendors and maintains relationships to ensure responsive service levels.
- Assists in directing and coordinating quality, safety, manufacturing, maintenance and distribution activities to meet and exceed the internal and external customers.
- Provide leadership and mentoring to all Maintenance hourly employees to resolve problems, complaints and grievances.
- Conduct meetings with Maintenance staff to ensure all operational issues are being appropriately communicated and addressed.
- Works with Production and QA Manager to ensure compliance with regulatory inspections including, but not limited to USDA, OSHA, customer and third-party audits.
- Along with our QA and Production Manager, will develop, maintain and enforce compliance of SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures) and SSOP's (Sanitary Standard Operating Procedures).
- Work closely with the Production Team to monitor quality policies and procedures to assure conformance to all product quality specifications and where necessary take immediate corrective action to ensure quality conformance.
- Monitors supply inventory and orders necessary supplies for various areas of production.
- In conjunction with Operations, QA and Production Manager, review and approve process flows to assure equipment operating efficiently and providing highest yields.
- Any other request made by Management in an effort to focus on the concept of “Continuous Improvement” within the operation
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Training:
Minimum of an Associate’s degree from a two-year college / technical school or equivalent relevant work experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Trained in all areas of maintenance including but not limited to electrical, plumbing and HVAC.
- Bilingual (Spanish-English) strongly preferred but not mandatory
- Knowledge of plumbing, welding, pneumatics and hydraulics
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong planning and executing skills
- Understanding of process and flow of work
- Strong ability to plan and see opportunity for improved efficiency
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food processing equipment
- Ability to make decisions and take action
Experience:
- 5-7 years experience in processing/packaging of food products.
- 5-7 years experience in supervision with proven leadership skills.
Physical and Mental Job Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and walk throughout the plant
- Visual acuity required for working with various machines and equipment
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
Working Conditions:
Plant environment including potentially high levels of noise, slippery floors and temperature extremes.
