Job summary

Boar's Head Brand is seeking a Maintenance Lead Person for our Virginia plant. The role supports the department supervisor and facilities manager with maintenance of plant equipment, preventive maintenance, and special projects to drive overall department direction.

Responsibilities include directing crews, troubleshooting controls (PLC, relays, motors), welding, and ensuring GMP/SOP adherence while promoting food safety practices.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required with specialized training.
  • 5+ years mechanical experience required.
  • Ability to communicate with supervision and other departments.
  • Welding and fabrication skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directs crews and sets priorities with Facility and Operations Management.
  • Maintain equipment including PM tasks and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure GMPs and SOPs are followed; support Food Safety rules.
  • Train junior mechanics and assist with maintenance reporting.

Job Description

A MAINTENANCE LEAD PERSON assists with the maintenance of the plant’s equipment, including preventive maintenance, along with a variety of other duties as assigned by the lead person, supervisor, or manager. Successful candidate will assist department supervisor and facilities manager with special projects and overall direction of the department.

A MAINTENANCE LEAD PERSON assists with the maintenance of the plant’s equipment, including preventive maintenance, along with a variety of other duties as assigned by the lead person, supervisor, or manager. Successful candidate will assist department supervisor and facilities manager with special projects and overall direction of the department.

Responsibilities
  • Directs crews and establishes priorities through communication with Facility and Operations Management.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of machine controls (PLC, relay, AC motor drives, hydraulic, pneumatic and steam control valves including pilot and solenoid types).
  • Must possess fabrication skills including the use of basic shop equipment as well as tig and mig welding and basic lathe and millwork.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of various equipment systems to troubleshoot and adjust all controls and mechanical components in the system and perform all critical PM tasks.
  • Must have a working knowledge of plant utility systems (compressed air, steam, domestic water systems, etc.).
  • Must be able to perform basic building maintenance and repairs (manual and power doors, dock equipment, wall and floor, etc.).
  • Must be willing to give directions to more Jr. Class Mechanics on trouble-shooting and repair.
  • Ensure GMP’S and SOP’S are followed. Must know, support, and teach Food Safety rules for the Maintenance department.
  • OSHA and EPA guidelines and procedures must be followed where applicable.
  • Must have actual proven experience of successfully repairing pneumatics, hydraulics, and most mechanics involved with common industrial equipment such as drives and gear boxes with little to no supervision.
  • Responsible (with department supervisor) for ensuring that any procedures, and/or practices within the department, are being followed.
  • Must have good working knowledge of all jobs in the department, as well as, being able to troubleshoot, repair, and operate all equipment safely.
  • Be willing to train new employees assigned to the department.
  • Assist with any maintenance reporting or department paperwork as necessary.
  • Must be willing and able to perform other job functions as needed.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent plus specialized training.
  • Must be able to work as a team within the department as well as work with all personnel in the facility.
  • Must be able to communicate with Supervision, Quality Assurance, Safety, and USDA personnel.
  • Must be capable and willing to learn new equipment and willing to attend schools necessary for the job.
  • Must have more than 5 years of mechanical experience that shows a proven increase in mechanical knowledge and ability.
