Job summary

Mercer Foods in Oak Creek, WI is seeking a Maintenance Lead for the 3rd shift to manage and perform maintenance on production and facility equipment. The role requires reading wiring diagrams and manuals, diagnosing issues, and performing preventive maintenance to ensure safety and efficiency.

You will lead a team, coordinate repairs, and help develop SOPs within a fast-paced food production environment. The candidate should have 4+ years of manufacturing experience, a high school diploma or GED

  • 4+ years of manufacturing experience.
  • Strong hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and industrial skills with some ammonia/refrigeration and HVAC.
  • Experience with safety, food safety and SQF environments is implied by the role.

Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled servicing of machines and plant facilities.
  • Read equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance.
  • Diagnose problems, replace parts, test and adjust equipment.
  • Lead the Maintenance team for productivity and efficiencies.
  • Assist in creating Standard Operating Procedures.

Job Title: Maintenance Lead

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment, while adhering to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes in an effort to support the site’s business goals and objectives. Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment including but not limited to packaging equipment, machines, and other proprietary systems and machines. Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines. Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service. Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments. Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment, and plant facilities. Perform a variety of plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions. Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties. Detect faulty operations, defective material, and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision. Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas. Perform all other duties as assigned or needed. Must be highly motivated and able to work independently. Perform on-call responsibilities as required. Coach and lead the Maintenance team for productivity and efficiencies at Supervisor or Manager’s guidance. Assistance in creating Standard Operating Procedures.

Electrical Troubleshooting: Must have strong electrical troubleshooting skills up to 480V

Basic Machine Operations: Must be familiar with the basic machine functions and operations.

Continuous Improvement: Design, roadmap and continuous process/control improvement plans, leading implementation of both, including application/system change management for increased efficiency and effectiveness of processes or data.

Equipment Manual Comprehension : Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance, service, or operation.

KPI's :Track KPIs and reporting on cost savings, cost avoidance and efficiency gains.

Lead: Organize team to accomplish daily tasks and communicate directly with supervisor.

Maintenance Skills: Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain projects or tasks to keep the business in proper working order.

REQUIREMENTS: Requires a high school diploma/GED and completion of a craft apprenticeship, or an equivalent number of years of education and production maintenance experience; an AA degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance a plus; 4+ years of manufacturing experience; strong hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and industrial skills with some ammonia / refrigeration and HVAC.

FOOD SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

Place high priority on food safety, quality, and sanitation by understanding and executing Mercer Food’s food safety and sanitation policies and procedures.

Hold self and others accountable to Mercer Foods food safety & sanitation guidelines and policies by communicating any food safety incident, observation, or opportunity to your leadership team or teammates.

In the absence of Maintenance Supervisor, serves as back up to ensure all food safety, quality objectives and SQF system requirements are met.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and frequent fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires the following percentages of time committed to physical activity: 20% or more sitting, 70% or more walking, and 70% or more standing. The job is performed under frequent temperature variations and in a food manufacturing production environment. Unrestricted visual and audio abilities are required for the safety of all employees. The ability to lift to 40 lbs. is required.
