Job summary

Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) in Lebanon, PA is seeking a Maintenance Lead to supervise daily maintenance activities, mentor staff, and ensure equipment runs safely and efficiently in a fast-paced dairy facility.

You will diagnose electrical and mechanical issues, perform repairs, participate in preventive maintenance, and help manage parts purchasing while promoting GMP and safety across the plant.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Trade/technical schooling in electrical, mechanical, refrigeration or related fields preferred.
• 4 years of maintenance, mechanical, electrical, HVAC or related experience with leadership.
• Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems preferred.
• Certification and/or license may be required during course of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assign daily jobs and work orders, detailing requirements for the day and delegating tasks.
• Train and mentor maintenance staff.
• Assist supervisor to ensure work orders are completed in a timely manner with high quality.
• Perform maintenance and repairs on production, processing, and packaging equipment and related systems, following safety procedures.
• Support MRO purchasing and inventory management including parts and supplies.
• Anticipate parts requirements and facilitate purchasing.
• Support installation of new equipment and operator training.
• Maintain communication with other departments and management about issues affecting production.
• Document repairs and required information clearly and accurately per SOPs.
• Stay up to date on new products, equipment, technology and techniques.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and continuous improvement.
• Maintain safe working conditions and compliance with health, safety and GMP requirements.

General Purpose

Provide daily leadership and guidance to maintenance staff and assist the supervisor in directing work activities and resources. Monitor maintenance/mechanical activities to ensure that all equipment is operating effectively and efficiently. Perform general maintenance, preventative maintenance, over-hauls, modification, fabrication, welding, and/or mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair as needed. Demonstrate mastery of all job functions in the maintenance area/department. Train and mentor maintenance team members.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Assign daily jobs and work orders, detailing any requirements for the day and delegating/participating to successfully accomplish the daily tasks
• Ensure maintenance staff has a good understanding of work practices and procedures; train and develop maintenance staff
• Assist the supervisor to ensure that all work orders are completed in a timely manner, while maintaining high quality standards
• Assist with and/or perform maintenance and/or repairs (planned, unplanned, emergency) on production, processing, and packaging equipment as well as utility related equipment or systems, following all safety procedures
• Support the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) purchasing and inventory management functions including all repair and maintenance parts and supplies
• Anticipate parts requirements for the tasks, follow proper purchasing procedures, and acquire parts ahead of anticipated task performance
• Support the installation of new equipment
• Assist operators with training or troubleshooting to minimize equipment downtime
• Maintain communication with other departments, management, and employees and notify them of any problems and/or concerns that may restrict the efficiency of production
• Ensure all repairs are documented. Complete all paperwork clearly, legibly, and accurately with required information. Document all required information in accordance with standard operations procedures
• Stay up to date on new products, equipment, technology and techniques
• Utilizing continuous improvement mindset, identify opportunities to improve processes
• Maintain safe working conditions for employees and compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding health and safety issues
• Follow all DFA good manufacturing practices (GMP) and work in a manner consistent with all corporate regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements

Requirements

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduation from trade school or technical school preferred in areas such as electrical, programmable controls (PLC/HMI), mechanical, welding/fabrication, refrigeration, plumbing, etc.
• 4 years of maintenance, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, computer-controlled equipment, PLC, and HVAC or related experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment, coupled with demonstrated leadership attributes or team leadership experience
• Experience on a variety of equipment including lubricating, cleaning, material handling, motor control, relay control, process control and packaging equipment
• Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems preferred
• Certification and/or License – may be required during course of employment
