  • Digs ditches and trenches by hand where the earth may be hard and compact.
  • Does leveling and grinding work by hand. Mixes and pours concrete, asphalt and other surface materials. Installs and maintains various types of fences.
  • Performs grounds keeping maintenance to include tree, lawn, and shrub maintenance.
  • Performs excavation, grading, cleaning and other general laborer tasks.
  • Operates equipment including forklifts, jackhammers, wackers etc.
  • Occasionally operates tractors, backhoes, compactors for excavation, grading and paving.
  • Places and finishes asphalt, concrete and other hardscape surfaces.
  • Erects scaffolding.
  • Sweeps sidewalks, parking areas, asphalt toppings and empties exterior trash receptacles in order to keep the school campus visually appealing. Maintains a safe and healthy environment for students, staff and community.
  • Works alongside the maintenance workers when needed, to accomplish the assigned task.
  • Under the supervision of the Maintenance Foreman, follows shop routine or other specific orders given by the supervisor.
  • Reports any unsafe workplace condition and unsafe equipment to the supervisor.
  • Works with little or no supervision, therefore responsibility to the department is a must.
  • Performs a variety of general tasks as assigned.

CONTRACT TERM: Twelve Months (12) CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY: The position of Maintenance Laborer, under general supervision of the Maintenance Foreman assists with facilities maintenance tasks and works independently to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties. This position performs manual labor activities on school site.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Performs manual labor and a variety of skilled and semi-skilled facilities maintenance work as directed by the supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Ability to operate and maintain various types of power and hand equipment to include small engine equipment, and hand tools for maintenance and lawn/ grounds keeping work.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment appropriate to the area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of the tools, materials, and standard practices of the building and maintenance trades.
  • Ability to support the design, construction, installation, and maintenance of grading and paving.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
  • Ability to work from sketches, drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain records.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationship with others.
  • Knowledge of general school site rules and policy.
  • Knowledge of Governing Board rules of conduct and policy.
  • Skill in communicating orally and in writing.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others, requiring the ability to interact professionally and courteously with students, faculty, staff and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) years’ work experience in facilities maintenance or construction.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Hopi/Indian Preference in employment considered.
  • Valid State Driver Licenses.
  • Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Must successfully pass employment background checks within the last five years which include state, federal and local tribe.
