Job summary

Inspire Development Centers seeks a Maintenance Technician to complete center and office repairs, maintenance, and new construction as needed. Must have basic carpentry, electrical and plumbing skills and communicate with vendors and Center Managers about repairs.

The role requires reading blueprints, coordinating with contractors, and ensuring safety compliance. Work at IDC’s Child Development Centers and offices with occasional travel; background checks and WA driver’s license required.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of carpentry and plumbing experience.
• Experience with construction and facilities maintenance.
• Familiar with OSHA, WISHA, and ADA regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Designs, constructs, remodels, and repairs interior and exterior structures.

Description

Position Purpose This position is responsible to complete center and office repairs, maintenance, and new construction as needed. Possess basic carpentry, electrical and plumbing skills to complete the repairs. Able to communicate with vendors and Center Managers with regards to center repairs and maintenance.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Inspire Development Centers provides Early Childhood Education (ECE) and social services to more than 4000 children, in center based and home based setting, at more than 25 Child Development Centers (CDC) throughout the State of Washington. Inspire provides services under various federal and state funded programs with differing regulations and stipulations, which must be coordinated and adhered to, including, but not limited to: Regional Head Start (RHS), Migrant Seasonal Head Start (MSHS), Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) and Early Head Start (EHS). The agency is required to meet an annual quota of non-federal share (in-kind) funds. A large majority of children’s first language is Spanish.

Supervisory and Other Relationships

Position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and works closely with the Transportation & Facilities Manager.

Examples Of Essential Duties And Accountabilities

• Designs, constructs, remodels, retrofits and repairs interior and exterior structures made of wood, drywall, plaster, concrete or brick.
• Constructs, repairs and retrofits exterior play structures, playground landscaping and related items.
• Responsible for the construction and repair of ramps, stairs, fences, floors, windows, roofs, interior/exterior walls, exterior modular skirting, and other related items.
• Responsible for completing minor electrical repairs, including but not limited to; light fixtures, switches, receptacles, etc.
• Responsible for the installation, replacement and repair of plumbing fixtures, including but not limited to; sinks, faucets, toilets, water lines, drains, and sewer lines.
• Assist in estimating material and labor needs as required for completion of projects.
• Assist providing basic work drawing to scale if needed for the purpose of obtaining a building work permit.
• May need to assist other subcontractors and other co-workers for other work needed for the job. Able to communicate with supplier(s) and vendor(s) for the purpose of purchasing construction materials.
• Shows interest in furthering professional growth by attending staff meetings, workshops, trainings, classes and seminars.
• Maintain confidentiality of program, vender, contractors and client related information at all times.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor.

Incumbents are required to demonstrate knowledge and abilities in these areas:

• Ability to read, write and communicate in English and/or Spanish to fulfill the responsibilities of this position;
• Three (3) years of actual experience in areas of carpentry and plumbing, working knowledge of Uniform Building Codes (UBC) and background in maintenance cleaning and repair procedures;
• Experience in construction and/or facilities maintenance;
• Familiar with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations;
• Familiar with federal assurance regarding construction initiatives;
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills;
• Understanding of the interrelationships between services and systems;
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions and have knowledge of carpentry procedures without constant supervision;
• Ability to learn new tasks quickly and efficiently;
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines;
• Ability to gather and analyze data for reports via multiple modes;
• Ability to read, write and interpret blue prints and documentation;

• Previous Head Start experience.
• English/Spanish bi-lingual fluency.

Incumbents Are Required To Have The Following

• Valid Washington State driver’s license;
• Must provide a yearly driving abstract;
• Must maintain acceptable driving history;
• Proof of automobile insurance;
• Ability to travel to perform job duties and responsibilities;
• Must pass initial and periodic criminal and background check;
• Must pass initial and periodic employee health clearance; (present it within forty-five (45) days of employment);
• Current First Aid / CPR cards; (obtain the training within thirty (30) days of employment);
• Subject to initial and periodic TB screen;
• Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV / AIDS) training, (obtain the training within thirty (30) days of employment);
• Blood Borne Pathogen training; (obtain the training within thirty (30) days of employment);
• Subject to random drug screen;
• Must sign a Confidentiality Agreement; and
• Must complete and sign a Conflict of Interest Disclosure Statement on an annual basis.

Job sites are typically located at IDC’s Child Development Centers or Offices. Much of the work is completed outside in an environment that’s not shielded from the weather. Weather conditions can include excessive heat, cold, wind, rain, and other weather conditions. At times, work will be conducted on uneven terrain, at heights, or within confined spaces.
