Job summary

Amcor in Wytheville, VA, seeks an experienced Maintenance Technician to sustain PET container production equipment. You will manage repairs, mold changes, and preventative maintenance to maximize uptime and safety on the line.

The role requires hands-on ability to plan, modify, and fabricate solutions affecting productivity. Qualified candidates possess an associate degree or equivalent experience, with knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electricity and controls, and strong English

Maintains all production machinery and mechanical equipment that comprises the total process of producing PET containers to ensure efficient operation of the machines and facility.

  • Accountable for all projects, repairs and /or improvements on the line as well as any mold changes and maintaining preventative maintenance.
  • Ensure proper and safe operational conditions of all production and related equipment.
  • Improve the production equipment, utilities, efficiency and reliability.
  • Recommend, plan, repair, modify, and fabricate any necessary elements following a problem or a project, which may have an effect on the productivity.
  • Analyze and resolve all issues related to the equipment.
  • Ensures cleanliness of all equipment and related areas after repairs or PM's.
  • Assist in updating, developing and improving equipment PM program.
  • Communicate to the supervisor on the condition of all production equipment.
  • Assist and train production employees in machine conversions and PM's.
  • Assist other maintenance employees with repairs, PM, installation commissioning and testing of equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining appropriate stock of spare parts ensuring that parts catalogue is up-to-date, parts room is organized and kept clean.
  • Keep all tools in good and safe condition and ensure tools are returned to its appropriate location.
  • Ensuring toolbox is parked in the designated area after job is completed, top of box must be kept clean of parts and lubricants.
  • Direct and advise production employees in machine conversion and PM's.
  • Flexible-if Over Time is required and covering for vacation.
  • Ensuring the HazMat area is kept clean and waste material is properly disposed of.
  • Ensuring the PM cart is stocked and organized.
  • Perform all duties, in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Shift Maintenance will also have the systems room checks, Pressco checks, Daily shop housekeeping and Video jet daily PM's to perform.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Ability to organize own work within the schedules in the most effective and economical way.
  • Able to conduct work in a manner that will bring credit to the incumbent, maintenance department and Amcor
  • Provincial/Industrial mechanic certification.
  • Knowledge in hydraulic and pneumatic
  • Have basic knowledge in electricity and control.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Must be able to stand and walk on concrete floors for extended periods of time. Breaks will be the only time you will have an opportunity to sit.
  • Must be able to coordinate movements quickly and accurately in a high output production area.
  • Must demonstrate ability though previous work assignments to work effectively in a fast-paced high-quality manufacturing environment.
  • Must willingly accept any other duties/changes to position to fit the needs for production as requested by Shift Supervisor.
  • Must wear safety equipment, personal protective equipment, as required in the area or to perform specific job duties.
  • Perform all good housekeeping assignments.
  • Able to help organize and maintain maintenance areas and stock room.
Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, or walk and is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stoop and kneel, and climb stairs. The employee is regularly required to communicate with other employees and be aware of sounds in the plant. Employee is required to be awake and alert during all work hours. The employee must also occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

EDUCATION

Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interests, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Job is performed near moving mechanical parts and occasionally in high, precarious places. Safety glasses are required to be worn. The noise level is loud, requiring hearing protection to be worn. GMP procedures are observed in all areas of the plant.

Pay Range

The starting rate of pay for this position is expected to be $29.10/hr; however, starting pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills and experience between $29.10/hr and $33.60/hr.

The salary range provided reflects the anticipated base pay for this role at the time of this posting. This range is applicable to positions performed in jurisdictions with pay transparency requirements, including CA, CO, CT, HI, IL, MD, MA, MN, NV, NJ, NY, RI, VT, WA, Washington DC, as well as remote roles that may be performed in these locations. Compensation for roles performed outside of these jurisdictions may vary. The Company reserves the right to modify this range at any time.
