Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan Inc. in El Paso, Texas, is seeking a maintenance assistant to support the repair and upkeep of heavy equipment at our rod and refining plant.

You’ll work on haul trucks, loaders, dozers, and graders, and collaborate with Journeyman Mechanics on engines, brakes, and transmissions. The role requires strong safety awareness, the ability to follow English instructions, and a willingness to pass required training.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety instructions in English.
• Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments and safety standards.
• Candidate must demonstrate required aptitude and pass written assessments when required.

Responsibilities

• Safely assist with maintenance and repair of heavy equipment (haul trucks, water trucks, dozers, loaders, graders).
• Assist Journeyman Mechanics with maintenance on transmissions, engines, brakes, differentials, pumps and other systems.
• Perform preventative maintenance and complete Work Orders and maintenance documentation.
• Troubleshoot equipment problems and perform housekeeping and area checks.
• May operate forklifts, cranes, and small mobile equipment.

Where You Will Work

Our rod and refining plant in El Paso, Texas, is a key contributor to our ranking as one of the world’s largest manufacturers of continuous cast copper rod – a main material used in the manufacturing of wire and cable products. The refinery has the potential to operate at an annual production capacity of about 900 million pounds of copper cathode, which is sufficient to refine all the copper anode we produce at our Miami operations in Arizona. The refinery also produces nickel carbonate, copper telluride and autoclaved slimes material containing gold, silver, platinum and palladium.

The beautiful city of El Paso features three universities, many community colleges and numerous schools. What You Will Do

Safely assist with maintenance and repair of heavy equipment such as, but not limited to: Haul Trucks, Water Trucks, Rubber Tire and Track Dozers, Front-end Loaders, and Motor Graders.
Assist Journeyman Mechanics with maintenance activities on transmissions, engines, brakes, differentials, pumps, motors, torque converters, final drives and other heavy equipment systems or maintenance activities
Assists with and performs preventative maintenance activities on heavy equipment
Completes Work Orders and other maintenance documentation
Troubleshoot equipment problems
Performs housekeeping duties and work area checks
May operate equipment such as: forklifts, cranes, and small mobile equipment
Performs other duties as required

What You Bring To Freeport

• Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
• Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
• Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude. The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety.

What We Offer You

The estimated pay range for this role is currently$21.00 - $27.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
