Job description

  • Classification: Part‑Time I, II or III Hourly
  • Pay Range: Pay is determined on an annual basis by the Board of Park Commissioners
  • Supervisor: Works under the general and detailed supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent and full-time maintenance employees
JOB SUMMARY

Employee performs a variety of maintenance and operational tasks supporting the golf course and related facility areas. Employee is responsible for safe, efficient operation of equipment and tools while following established work and safety procedures.

JOB DUTIES AND TASKS

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed by the individual within this classification. Essential Functions

  • Assist in the maintenance of the assigned golf course and surrounding areas to include bunker bunkers, mowing greens and tees, changing hole locations, hand watering, debris removal, filling ball washers and water coolers, moving tee markers, basic irrigation repair, fertilizer and chemical applications, and other routine maintenance tasks.
  • Maintenance tasks also include string trimming, hand weeding, cart path maintenance, mowing rough and adjacent areas and general groundskeeping.
  • Required to accept and perform a variety of assignments as directed by supervisors; while skill levels vary, all seasonal employees are expected to assist with assigned tasks when appropriately trained.
  • Performing light construction and landscape work including minor repairs to equipment, vehicles, buildings and facilities.
  • Operate trucks, tractors, mowers and other maintenance equipment and hand tools in support of turf care, construction and general maintenance activities.
  • Follow proper procedures for handling pesticides, fertilizers and other materials in accordance with training and safety guidelines.
  • Promptly report job related issues, incomplete tasks and safety concerns to supervisor.
  • Perform custodial duties as needed, including restroom cleaning and garbage removal.
  • Maintain records and reports relating to maintenance, operation, and improvements.
  • Follow all BPRD safety policies and procedures outlined in the Risk Management Handbook.
  • Complete all necessary payroll forms and utilize the electronic time and attendance timekeeping system.
  • Understand and follow the standard operating procedures outlined in the employee manual.
  • Understand and follow the Human Resource Policy and Procedure Handbook items related to this position.
  • Represent BPRD in a professional and positive manner. BPRD issues clothing and equipment to employees and the issued items are to be used in an appropriate manner, not inconsistent with the image BPRD wishes to convey to the public.

Other Duties and Tasks

  • Inform supervisor prior to running out of supplies, scheduling special tools or equipment or upon completion of a task.
  • Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with staff, contractors and the public.
  • Arrive at scheduled time and be ready to work. Absences must have prior approval by the supervisor.
  • Responsible for personal and job site neatness; assist with maintaining clean and organized work areas.
  • Perform a variety of tasks that range from skilled to unskilled work.
  • Other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
  • Ability to prepare written reports and to report problems and repairs to supervisor.
  • Must maintain a fitness level acceptable to perform the skills required of the position including prolonged standing, walking and bending.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds alone or heavier lifting with other employees.
  • Minimum age is 18 years old. Must have a valid driver’s license for class of vehicle to be driven.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret labels on pesticides, safety data, manuals and written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Employee is required to work 35-40 hours a week and overtime when required.
  • Work is primarily outdoors and requires working under extreme conditions.
  • Employee is required to work nights, weekends and/or holidays on a rotating or as needed basis. Work may involve close or minimal supervision.
  • Work involves physical labor, operation of equipment and working with pesticides.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds alone or heavier lifting with other employees.
