The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) manages over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water protection lands, beaches, lakes, and recreational facilities, aiming to protect and enhance natural, cultural, and recreational resources for all.
Division of Operations: This division is central to DCR’s mission, managing park operations, ranger services, fleet, and programming to ensure accessible, welcoming outdoor recreation spaces for everyone.
Position Location: Neponset Operations Yard, 475 Neponset Ave, Boston
Position Overview: Incumbents will operate heavy machinery such as street sweepers, backhoes, front-end loaders, bulldozers, and other equipment for construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, parks, and related infrastructure. Responsibilities include vehicle operation, routine maintenance, record-keeping, and supervising staff as needed.
Specific Duties:
Safety and Licensing: Positions are safety-sensitive, requiring participation in DCR’s drug testing program. Candidates must hold a valid Massachusetts Class 2 Motor Vehicle Operator’s License, a 2A Hoisting license, and a CDL license.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of heavy equipment operation and maintenance, understanding of state laws, ability to operate snow removal equipment, perform minor repairs, and follow instructions. Knowledge of radio communication procedures is a plus.
Minimum Requirements: No specific minimum entrance requirements. Special requirements include possession of a valid Massachusetts CDL and, depending on assignment, a Class C Equipment Operator’s License.
Additional Information: First consideration will be given to applicants applying within the first 14 days. The position is full-time, day shift, with a salary range of $55,331.12 - $76,125.66 annually.
