Job summary

HRI is seeking a Maintenance Engineer for a downtown Indianapolis hotel, responsible for routine and preventive maintenance across guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces. You will troubleshoot HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical issues, complete work orders, and support building upkeep to ensure guest comfort and smooth operations.

This role reports to the Engineering Supervisor/Chief Engineer and requires safety awareness and independent work, with opportunities for career

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; HVAC/electrical/plumbing training preferred.
  • Hotel or commercial building maintenance experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry repairs.
  • Strong troubleshooting, safety, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance in guestrooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces.
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical issues.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from guests and staff.
  • Complete work orders, PM tasks, and repair logs in the work order system.
  • Assist with painting, carpentry, caulking, and other cosmetic repairs.
  • Inspect guest rooms for proper functionality of lights, outlets, AC units, fixtures, and appliances.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the engineering shop and areas.
  • Support setup for events or furniture movements as needed.
  • Monitor and report equipment issues requiring advanced repair or vendor support.
  • Follow safety, sanitation, and company procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by engineering leadership.

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for performing routine and preventive maintenance tasks throughout the hotel. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


  • Education
    High school diploma or equivalent required.
    Technical or vocational training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or related trades preferred.

  • Experience
    Previous maintenance or engineering experience in a hotel, resort, or commercial building preferred.
    Basic knowledge of building systems and maintenance procedures required.
    Experience with hand tools, power tools, and mechanical repairs a plus.

  • Skills and Knowledge
    General knowledge of plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry repairs.
    Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
    Ability to complete work orders accurately and efficiently.
    Understanding of safety practices, OSHA standards, and proper tool usage.
    Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in various physical environments.
    Good communication and customer service skills.
