Job summary

Nissin Foods USA in Gardena, California, seeks an Automation Maintenance Technician to maintain and program PLC-based automation systems on production lines, troubleshoot issues, and perform repairs to ensure product quality and safety.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering or 5+ years in a similar role.
  • Strong PLC programming knowledge and ability to troubleshoot and modify PLC programs.
  • Experience with PLCs from Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Omron; familiarity with servo drives.
  • Proficient in reading schematics and wiring diagrams; AutoCAD helpful.

Job description

Job Overview

This function involves contributing to the maintenance of automation systems and machinery used in production, including troubleshooting, program changes, and repairs. The role also covers PLC programming across process control systems, PLCs, servo controls, and ladder logic components to ensure the safety and quality of the products produced on the line.

Responsibilities
  • Knowledge of PLC software, able to connect a laptop computer to PLCs and other peripheral devices.
  • Basic knowledge of programming PLCs, VFDs, servo drives, and HMIs.
  • Ability to access and troubleshoot equipment using a laptop computer with PLC programs.
  • Experience with PLC, VFD, and servo devices from Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, Omron; proficiency with at least one manufacturer is required upon hiring.
  • Skill to tune, adjust, and reprogram control devices to maintain proper process operation of equipment.
  • Capacity to create simple circuit schematics for adding devices to equipment to optimize performance.
  • Maintain equipment schematics up-to-date when modifications are performed.
  • Assist in implementation of automated industrial assembly machines and production lines utilizing robotics, linear motion components, and conveyors.
  • Perform modifications to equipment and machinery to maintain optimal performance and production efficiencies.
  • Repair breakdowns in electrical machinery.
  • Use computerized maintenance work system programs for work orders, preventive maintenance, and parts ordering.
  • Complete preventative maintenance checks and perform scheduled and unscheduled repairs to equipment.
  • Collaborate with contractors and vendors on special projects in production or other departments.
  • Construct parts or equipment from raw materials and follow blueprints to build them.
  • Work with electrical systems ranging from 5 VDC up to 480 V 3‑phase.
  • Collaborate with other departments to improve the production process.
  • Maintain tools and keep them in good working order; perform cleaning details and tasks assigned by supervisors.
  • Attend safety, sanitation, production, and quality control meetings as necessary.
  • Follow manual instructions or contact machine manufacturers when problems arise.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: A bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering is desired; or at least five years of experience in a similar position with experience in high‑volume, fully or semi‑automatic mechanical assembly manufacturing. Robotic experience is helpful.

Language Skills: Must be an excellent communicator, able to read and interpret documents such as panel design and layout, bill of materials, wiring schematics, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must write reports and correspondence and speak effectively in front of vendors or employees.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Compute rates, ratios, and percentages; draw and interpret bar graphs.

Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, maintenance work order and preventive maintenance software, and knowledge of AutoCAD is helpful.

Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense to understand and carry out detailed but unstructured written or oral instructions. Resolve and deal with simple problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations within the production processing operation. Possess strong analytical and problem‑solving skills and be a fast learner.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Stand/Walk approximately 6 hours out of an 8‑hour shift on concrete.
  • Sit during lunch and break; stools are available in the maintenance shop.
  • Carry/Lift frequent light loads under 15 lb; infrequent lifts under 50 lb; for heavy parts over 50 lb, obtain assistance from other mechanics.
  • Pull infrequently using a cart to transport heavy equipment or parts.
  • Bend/Stoop frequently; independence to move around and stretch while working.
  • Reach occasionally overhead or forward when needed.
  • Climb occasionally; may have to climb a ladder or use a mechanical lift for high work in the production area.
  • Kneel/Crawl infrequently depending on project, primarily along the production line.
  • Repetitive leg/arm movements infrequently to never.
  • Work in a manufacturing environment with temperature variations, near moving mechanical machinery, exposed to fumes or airborne particles, vibration, and high precarious places.
Pay Range

USD $24.70 – $43.11 per hour
