Description
Ensure that maintenance schedules are followed as outlined for respective shift or area. Develop and maintain written maintenance policies and procedures. Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the Maintenance Department, its programs, and activities.
- Coordinate maintenance services and activities with other related departments (i.e., Dietary, Nursing, Activities, etc.).
- Assume the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability of directing the Maintenance Department.
- Assist the Infection Control Coordinator in identifying, evaluating, and classifying routine and job-related maintenance functions, especially those involving potential exposure to blood/body fluids.
- Inspect storage rooms, workrooms, utility/janitorial closets, etc., for upkeep and supply control.
- Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies and develop correction plans for deficiencies.
- Ensure proper completion and supervision of services performed by outside vendors.
- Conduct regular meetings with maintenance personnel and consult with interdepartment supervisors to improve operations.
- Review and assess the competence of maintenance staff and make necessary adjustments.
- Make daily rounds to verify that maintenance duties are performed correctly and meet facility needs.
- Maintain good working relationships with other departments to ensure uninterrupted maintenance services.
- Supervise safety and fire protection programs, ensuring weekly inspections and compliance with safety regulations.
- Ensure proper handling, labeling, and storage of hazardous chemicals, and maintain MSDS records.
- Develop and enforce infection control policies and train personnel on safety precautions, especially for tasks involving exposure to bodily fluids or chemicals.
- Conduct periodic equipment checks and ensure availability of necessary tools and supplies.
- Assist in preparing the maintenance department’s budget and maintain financial records and reports.
- Perform weekly inspections to uphold quality control standards.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident information and be prepared to handle emergencies.
- Ensure proper disposal of medical waste according to facility procedures.
- Supervisory responsibilities include overseeing personnel, ensuring safety, and maintaining standards.
- Qualifications include a minimum of a high school diploma, 3 years supervisory experience in maintenance, knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, ability to read blueprints, and compliance with licensing requirements.
- Physical demands include occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds, prolonged desk work, and assisting in emergency evacuations.
- The work environment is typically low to moderate noise, with accommodations made for disabilities.
