Unknown is seeking a custodian to maintain cleanliness and safety of county buildings. The role involves performing a wide range of cleaning tasks, operating equipment, and assisting with basic maintenance as needed.
Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, and one year of custodial experience. Work is performed on site with regular training sessions and a focus on safety and teamwork.

Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks to ensure the cleanliness and safety of buildings and grounds (e.g. sweeps, dusts, wet mops, vacuums, strips, scrubs, waxes floors; shampoos carpet; cleans spills, disinfects; dusts furniture; empties trash; restocks restroom supplies; washes walls, windows, doors, woodwork and mirrors; moves furniture; replaces ceiling tiles; replaces light bulbs; pulls weeds; trims bushes and shrubs; may mow lawn, assists with snow removal; etc.) Operates necessary equipment (vacuum cleaner, buffer, scrubber, snow blower/plow, etc.) in order to accomplish custodian tasks. Utilizes dust cloths, pails, brooms, and cleaning agents. Performs routine maintenance and repair tasks (e.g. cleans, adjusts, lubricates equipment, cleans and/or changes filters, paints, fixes minor leaks, etc.); assists maintenance personnel with major repair tasks; performs ground maintenance tasks. Maintains supply inventory and requisitions needed supplies. Prepares and maintains records, reports and other required documentation regarding works. Attends required training sessions and staff meetings. Performs other related duties as assigned. Works alone or with other persons in short or long-term team projects to resolve problems or conflicts in any area of operations or to complete assigned projects at the direction of supervisor or Department Head when assigned. Works aggressively to reduce or eliminate safety/risk concerns in current position or work location. Reports safety/risk management issues to immediate supervisor. Participates in cross-training and maintains proficiency in area of cross-training as necessary.
High School Education or GED. Also requires one-year of custodial, janitorial, or general maintenance experience. Knowledge of cleaning materials, equipment, and safety procedures. Ability to utilize tools of the trades, problem solve and cooperate with co-workers on group projects. Ability to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to follow instructions. Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
May be exposed to dirt, dust, varying temperatures and dangerous equipment. Moderate to heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, stooping and bending. Works in close proximity to motorized equipment and tools; requires normal vision and hearing acuity. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
