Job summary

Cedarhurst Living is seeking a Maintenance Coordinator to support daily upkeep of our senior living community in Topeka, Kansas. This role covers interior, exterior, and grounds maintenance with a focus on safety and resident comfort, working roughly 20 hours per week under the Maintenance Director.

Responsibilities include cleaning, preventative maintenance, minor repairs, coordinating with contractors, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1–3 years of related maintenance experience preferred.
  • CPR or BLS certification preferred.
  • Basic carpentry, painting, drywall, and minor plumbing skills.
  • Proficient with basic computer systems and maintenance software.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all interior and exterior areas to cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Assist with daily and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Repair or report issues to the Maintenance Director.
  • Prepare units for move-ins including basic repairs.

Position Summary:

The Maintenance Coordinator, reporting to the Maintenance Director, helps ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained living environment for residents by performing timely and high-quality maintenance services. This role is responsible for the care and upkeep of the community’s interior, exterior, and grounds, and contributes to maintaining a welcoming and orderly environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

Essential Functions:
  • Maintain all areas inside the building to the highest cleanliness standards, including routine and deep cleaning of carpets, furniture, windows and glass, as well as maintenance and replacement of hard surface flooring as needed.
  • Support grounds maintenance, including exterior building repairs and lawn care, in collaboration with landscaping contractors and waste removal services.
  • Assist with implementing and documenting a preventative maintenance program for the building and its equipment.
  • Prepare and refurbish apartments for resident move-ins, including patching and painting walls and ceilings; replacing or deep-cleaning carpets, install/replace vinyl flooring and ceiling fans; and refinishing trim and cabinets.
  • Maintain fire safety and emergency records in compliance with applicable regulations. Respond to environmental concerns such as natural disasters, fires, power outages, plumbing issues, and pipe breakages. Maintain catalog of Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Inspect resident apartments for potential problems and hazards. Perform repairs or report issues to the Maintenance Director and Executive Director for follow-up.
  • Schedule and perform preventative maintenance and maintain up-to-date quality assurance records for the physical plant, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Use building management software to document and track maintenance tasks, apartment turnovers, and work orders.
  • Perform repair and maintenance on janitorial equipment and building facilities.
  • Support effective communication between community staff and residents’ families regarding residents’ physical, personal, and emotional well-being.
  • Collaborate effectively with others and follow direction from management, as well as taking initiative with the capability to engage in conflict intervention and resolution for residents, families, employees, and others as needed.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-3 years of past related experience preferred.
  • Completion of an accredited maintenance training program may be considered in lieu of work experience.
  • Applicable state license(s), as required.
  • CPR or BLS certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge of carpentry including drywall repair, painting, light plumbing, and preventative maintenance.
  • Basic technical and mechanical skills to perform routine maintenance and repairs on mechanical and electrical systems, as well as general understanding of construction principles.
  • Proficient in basic computer systems and software, including internet browsers, Microsoft Office, and relevant electronic records platforms.
Working Conditions:
  • This position must be able to walk or stand for extended periods of time in order to perform daily job duties.
  • This position must be able to kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl occasionally as part of routine tasks.
  • This position requires the ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds without assistance and occasionally lift or move up to 200 pounds with assistance.
  • This position may require weekend or holiday work, on-call availability as needed.
  • This position Primarily works indoors within the community, with occasional outdoor tasks as needed.
  • This position is required to promote safe working practices by actively preventing accidents and preserving equipment. This position will also participate in risk management and quality assurance programs to ensure the safety and well-being of the entire community.
  • This role involves actively participating in all staff activities aimed at fostering teamwork, unity, and morale. The individual will contribute as a collaborative team player, working alongside colleagues to create a supportive and cohesive work environment.
  • Individuals in this position are required to stay current on all training and ongoing education initiatives. They are expected to actively pursue self-improvement and embrace opportunities for continuous learning to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • This position must maintain compliance with all personnel policies, established community policies and procedures, Resident Rights, and Federal and State Regulations and Standards regarding senior living care, including but not limited to; HIPAA privacy, confidentiality laws, and opportunities/limits of other levels of care.
  • This position must respond calmly and effectively to emergencies, such as medical incidents or natural disasters, to ensure the safety of residents and staff.
