Job summary

SK Battery America is seeking a controls engineer to optimize battery production by applying engineering concepts to maintenance and process improvement, ensuring equipment reliability and uptime.

The role requires PLC/HMI expertise, hands-on installation experience, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to solve complex issues in a 24/7 plant.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or above in engineering (mechanical, electrical or similar).
• 5+ years of experience with PLC's and HMIs in a high-volume manufacturing maintenance environment.
• Battery Maintenance experience appreciated (similar processes to battery production).
• Experience with installation and setup of new battery production equipment (preferred).
• Technical proficiency with PLCs (MELSEC Q Series, R Series) and HMIs (GOT2000, GX Works 2 & 3, GT Designs).
• Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with maintenance team on emergency repairs to meet production milestones.
• Troubleshoot equipment and minimize downtime with effective solutions.
• Oversee new/modified production equipment installation and setup.
• Analyze PLC issues and develop corrective actions.
• Establish and follow a preventative maintenance plan.
• Manage spare parts inventory and purchasing orders.
• Develop engineering solutions for uptime, safety, and quality.
• Report maintenance activities and indicators daily or weekly.

Job description

The battery manufacturing controls engineer is responsible for ensuring that plants create the best products possible in the most efficient manner. They are highly analytical and use these skills to examine and improve processes in order to increase productivity. Simultaneously, they are also responsible for ensuring that all equipment is properly maintained. The controls engineer must also be able to work with other departments and external parties to create and implement processes to increase the plant's efficiency. This position will involve interacting with other departments and vendors to solve complex and/or urgent problems by identifying and evaluating alternatives or by providing needed information and advice.

Candidate should be a motivated problem-solver that can provide creative solutions to given queries, taking effectiveness and quality into concern based on technological expertise and best practices. As the facility operates 24/7, this position may require on-call support in various circumstances.

Essential duties and responsibilities

• Working cooperative team environment alongside other maintenance team members on emergency repairs, implementing corrective actions to achieve production milestones.
• Troubleshoot and devise effective solutions to address challenges in equipment including emergency repairs to production equipment to minimize downtime.
• Oversee new and/or modified production equipment installation and setup.
• Analyze equipment PLC issues and develop corrective actions.
• Establish/follow-follow through on a preventative maintenance plan.
• Manage spare parts inventory and tools (includes writing purchasing orders & managing safety stock.)
• Develop engineering solutions for continuous improvement in areas regarding uptime, safety, and quality.
• report key maintenance activities/results/indicators on a daily or weekly bases.

• Education
  • Bachelors degree or above in engineering (mechanical, electrical or similar).
• Experience
  • 5+ years of experience with PLC's and HMI's in a high-volume manufacturing maintenance environment.
  • Battery Maintenance experience appreciated (similar equipment experiences to each battery manufacturing process like electrode, assembly, formation preferred.)
  • Experience with installation and setup of new battery production equipment (preferred)
• Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses
  • Technical proficiency with PLCs (MELSEC Q Series, R Series) and HMIs (GOT2000, GX woks 2 &3, GT Designs.)
  • Technical proficiency in the following software applications:
    • Invertor, VFS (Mitsubishi, SIEMENS-_SIMANTIC, Parker, Yaskawa, LS.)
    • Safety PLC (Pilz, Omron)
    • Servo control (Mitsubishi, MOOG)
    • Control Network (CC-Link, RS-485, Ethernet.)
• Working level of English (Verbal, written, etc.)
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
