Job summary

Gilbert Residence in Ypsilanti, MI is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to keep our living environment safe, clean and comfortable for residents. You will perform routine maintenance and custodial tasks across the facility, ensuring compliance with current standards.

The role requires a full‑time daytime shift with every other weekend and on‑call readiness. Knowledge of boilers, generators, and basic electrical/plumbing systems is beneficial, and strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience in maintenance/plant operations preferred.
• Knowledge of boilers, compressors, generators and basic systems.
• Familiar with building codes and safety regulations.
• Able to push, pull, move or lift at least 50 pounds.
• Reliable with strong written and verbal communication.
• Weekend availability and on-call readiness.

Responsibilities

• Make daily rounds indoors and outdoors.
• Inspect work order logs for urgent and planned repairs.
• Perform floor care, minor repairs, furniture moving, and room preparation.
• Inspect storage rooms and work areas for upkeep and supplies.
• Maintain a safe, warm, and caring environment for residents.
• Attend annual facility in-service training (OSHA, HIPAA, etc.).
• Follow safety regulations when using equipment and supplies.
• Be ready to handle emergencies and dispose of medical waste per procedures.

Maintenance Assistant

Full Time

Day shift (includes every other weekend)

The Gilbert Residence provides basic nursing care to 32 residents. Supportive Living, Assisted Living and Specialized Dementia care to 40 residents. We are a 5 Star facility rated by CMS and have a long tradition of excellence by providing compassionate and dignified care.

The Maintenance Assistant performs maintenance and custodial operations in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility to assure that our facility is maintained in a safe, clean, and comfortable manner.

DUTIES

Include, but are not limited to:

• Make daily rounds (indoors & out)


• Inspect all work order logs for immediate repairs & planned repairs


• Perform floor care, minor repairs, furniture moving, resident room preparation, painting, trash removal, laundry transportation, etc. (daily as needed).


• Inspect storage rooms, workrooms, utility/janitorial closets, etc. for upkeep & supply control.


• Create & maintain a safe atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis.


• Attend & participate in annual facility in-service training programs as scheduled (i.e. OSHA, TB, HIPAA, Abuse Prevention, Safety, etc.)


• Follow established safety regulations in the use of equipment & supplies at all times.


• Ensure that supplies, equipment, etc. are maintained to provide a safe and comfortable environment.


• Be prepared to handle emergencies as they arise


• Be sure that appropriate medical waste is disposed of in accordance with our facility's established procedures

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent


• Experience in maintenance/plant related position.


• Has knowledge of boilers, compressors, generators as well as various mechanical, electrical, & plumbing systems.


• Knowledgeable in building codes & safety regulations.


• Has the ability to push, pull, move &/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds


• Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.


• Must be reliable


• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal


• Available for on-call status


• Must have weekend availability
