The Estates Directorate at Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to join the Engineering Department at the Royal Victoria Infirmary Hospital. The role supports completion of planned maintenance tasks to ensure compliance and reliability of electrical, ventilation, water systems and fire alarm testing.

Candidates should have basic building and engineering knowledge, NVQ Level 2 preferred, and strong health and safety awareness.

Qualifications

Basic building and engineering knowledge and relevant experience within a maintenance environment.
Knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation.
Desirable: PAT Testing and Fire Damper testing experience.
Experience of working in an Acute Hospital environment (desirable).

Responsibilities

Work under the direction of a craftsperson and support a range of maintenance tasks.
Assist with installation, repair and commissioning of equipment.
Carry out maintenance on plant and equipment and ensure safety and tidiness of plant rooms.
Perform Emergency Lighting Testing and Fire Alarm Testing; respond to Estates emergencies as required.
Flexible working to meet service demands.
Drive duties as required.

Job Overview

The Estates Directorate is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and flexible maintenance assistant to join the Engineering Department based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary Hospital. The role will require the successful applicant to assist with the completion of various engineering maintenance tasks to ensure statutory, mandatory and Trust specific Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks are completed within a timely and efficient manner.

Successful candidate will have a basic knowledge of building and engineering services and relevant experience within a maintenance environment. Experience of Emergency Lighting testing, Electrical systems, Ventilation & Water Systems as well as working in an acute hospital environment is desirable, though not essential.

Main duties of the job

Typical PPM tasks will include, but are not limited to; Emergency Light testing; PAT testing; ventilation grille cleaning; air handling unit inspections and cleaning, PPMs, fire alarm testing, Bed Maintenance, Fire Damper Testing etc.. Additional role requirements will also include the completion of minor works and day to day reactive maintenance of an Engineering/ Building manner.
Flexible working is required to meet the Estates support demands of a large Acute Hospital Trust.
