Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Maintain hours reporting for apprenticeship credit.
  • Complete assigned training classes and maintain passing levels on courses.
  • Operate standard maintenance tools and basic electrical testing equipment safely.
  • Perform preventative maintenance from daily up to semi-annual.
  • Read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics at 50%.
  • Complete minor troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical issues without direct supervision.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Follow prescribed safety rules and procedures; help develop proper safety techniques.
  • Detect, document, report and repair improper machine operation and faulty equipment.
  • Follow and perform emergency procedures regarding power failures.
  • Diversify maintenance skills for assignments across areas and shifts.
  • Understand and certify in our LOTO program.
  • Inform daily pass-downs of issues and actions.

Hello, do you possess a basic mechanical aptitude, but lack formal training? Do you have experience maintaining and repairing equipment and are ready to take the next step to Maintenance Technician? If so, then our apprenticeship program may be perfect for you! As an apprentice in our program, you will train on repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment used in the production and packaging of products. Regularly participate in inspecting equipment, structures or material; work on all requests for the various types of maintenance work assigned. This is a four-year program that allows participants to receive formal training at no charge while earning a paycheck.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain accurate reporting of hours for apprenticeship credit
  • Complete assigned training classes and maintain passing levels on courses
  • Effectively and safely operates standard maintenance tools such as power tools, basic hand tools and basic electrical testing equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance from daily up to Semi-Annual.
  • Read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics at 50%.
  • Complete minor troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical related issues without direct supervision.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Follow prescribed safety rules and regulation as well as other departmental policies and procedures. Help to develop proper safety techniques.
  • Detect, document, report and repair improper machine operation and faulty equipment.
  • Follow and perform emergency procedures regarding power failures.
  • Diversify maintenance skills that will allow assignments to be given in any work areas as required and, on any shift, required.
  • Understand and certify in our LOTO program.
  • Effectively inform through written communication daily pass-downs issues and actions.

Knowledge of:

  • Work is primarily done in a manufacturing production floor
  • Frequent production environment exposure which includes noise, dust, moving machinery, forklifts, and fluctuations in temperature

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting at a workstation for short periods of time
  • Frequent line calls throughout the building requiring immediate response
  • Stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders on a frequent basis
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds on an infrequent basis

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude
  • Previous maintenance experience is a plus
