Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking a Maintenance Apprentice 1st Year for Nichols Station in Amarillo, Texas. The role involves troubleshooting, constructing and maintaining plant equipment, and completing a 4-year apprenticeship to qualify as a Maintenance Journeyman.

You will participate in hands-on, classroom, and computer-based training, with travel to other locations as needed; safety and PPE are emphasized throughout the program.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Must have passed the Edison Electric Institute MASS test.
• Must respond to overtime and call outs.
• Commitment to safety rules including PPE and hard hat.
• Able to lift 50 pounds and hold a valid driver’s license.
• Respirator qualification (PFT) required; baseline audiogram.
• Welding experience and/or certification preferred.
• Troubleshooting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, construct and maintain plant equipment (turbines, boilers, pumps, compressors, etc.).
• Actively participate in hands-on and classroom training; complete a 4-year apprentice program and qualify as Maintenance Journeyman.
• Travel to other locations as required.

Xcel Energy is looking to fill a Maintenance Apprentice 1st Year positionfor Nichols Station in Amarillo, TX!

Position Summary

Job duties will include, but not limited to, troubleshoot, construct and maintain plant equipment (turbines, boilers, pumps, compressors, cooling towers, etc.).

The employee will be required to actively participate in hands-on training, required classroom training and computer interactive training programs, as directed by management. The employee will also be required to successfully complete 4-year apprentice program and qualify for Maintenance Journeyman. Travel to other locations will be required.

Environmental Exposure: Employee will work in and around energized/rotating equipment, confined spaces, vibrating equipment, heights, noise levels requiring ear protection, presence of chemical fumes, lead and dust requiring use of a respirator and work in a wide range of ambient temperatures, both hot and cold. The employee will work off of ladders and scaffolding, in elevated positions, and may be required to handle asbestos, lead and other hazardous materials. Employee must be able to walk, climb stairs and ladders throughout the plant. Work is often on gravel concrete and uneven surfaces.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Must have successfully passed theEdison Electric Institute (EEI) Maintenance Positions Selection Systems (MASS) test (testing opportunities may be available for qualified candidates)
• Must respond to overtime and call outs.
• Must commit to working safely and adhere to Company safety rules including wearing a hard hat, safety footwear, protective eye wear and Proper Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Able to lift 50 pounds
• Valid driver’s license
• Must be respirator qualified (Pulmonary Function Test)
• Must take Base line Audiogram
• Welding experience and/or certification preferred
• Troubleshooting experience preferred

Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $30.93 to $31.33 per hour
