Job summary

HellermannTyton is seeking a Maintenance and Automation Technician I (1st Shift) to support injection molding presses, robots, EOATs, and automation cells. You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose faults, and implement improvements to ensure uptime and quality, collaborating with Process Engineering, QA, and Production teams.

Ideal candidates have a technical diploma or associate degree in Automation or Mechatronics and 5+ years of relevant experience in automation or injection molding

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, diagnose and repair faults on injection molding machines, robots, and automation equipment.
• Diagnose and correct EOAT alignment, gripper posture, sensor faults, timing, speeds, and positions.
• Set up, calibrate, and clean vision systems; reimage cameras and adjust lighting for part confirmation.
• Resolve part detection alarms and miscounts; handle changeovers and equipment adjustments.
• Troubleshoot and repair press, robot, and automation issues arising from job changeovers.
• Maintain and repair auxiliary equipment like material delivery, blenders, thermolators, grinders, dryers.
• Reset drives, replace fuses, troubleshoot alarms; repair wiring and PLC issues.
• Perform accurate changeovers and setups on all machines.
• Log into PLCs to clear faults; adjust timers or counters.
• Modify or fabricate parts for existing equipment.
• Document interventions and communicate across shifts.
• Follow LOTO procedures and maintain safety compliance.
• Propose equipment/process improvements for reduced faults and downtime.

Job Description

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance and Automation Technician 1 is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting injection molding machines (presses), press robots, end-of-arm-tools (EOAT's), automation cells, auxiliary processing equipment and other equipment as assigned. This role ensures operational uptime by performing preventive maintenance; investigating, diagnosing and performing corrective actions for all machinery, automation and equipment issues; installing and uninstalling equipment as needed; monitoring and adjusting equipment as required. Collaborate with Process Engineering, QA, and Production teams to sustain quality and efficiency. This will be achieved while maintaining HellermannTyton Quality and EHS certifications by supporting all corporate policies, procedures, work instructions, and required documentation.

Essential Functions

• Perform preventive maintenance, i nvestigate, diagnose and repair faults on injection molding machines, robots, auxiliary processing equipment, automation, (EOAT's), etc.
• Diagnose and correct issues with robot EOAT alignment, gripper posture, sensor faults, timing, speeds, and positions.
• Setup, calibrate, and clean vision systems (Sigmax/Keyence/etc.); reimage cameras and adjust lighting for accurate part confirmation.
• Resolve part detection alarms, miscounts, and runner confirmation errors.
• Troubleshoot and rectify press, robot, and automation issues arising from job changeovers.
• Maintain and repair auxiliary equipment and systems, including material delivery systems, blenders, thermolators, grinders, hot runner controllers, dryers, etc.
• Reset drives, replace blown fuses, troubleshoot alarms, repair wiring issues, replace servo drives/motors, diagnose PLC issues.
• Accurately perform changeovers and set-ups on all machines.
• Analyze, troubleshoot, diagnose, adjust, or repair electrical, pneumatic, or mechanical components on automated and semi-automated equipment.
• Log into PLCs to clear hard faults, change timers, or counters.
• Adjust, modify, or fabricate parts for existing equipment.

Other Functions

• Maintain housekeeping and 5s standards.
• Document interventions, update work orders, and communicate across shifts.
• Follow LOTO procedures and maintain compliance during repairs and PMs.
• Minimize faults, alarms, and issues by proposing improvements to the equipment or manufacturing process.
• Other duties as assigned.

Success in this role will require

• Industrial System Knowledge: Basic to intermediate proficiency in repairing and maintaining electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
• Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Basic to intermediate ability to quickly diagnose, analyze, and resolve equipment failures.
• Preventive Maintenance: Ability to perform regular inspections, checks, and updates to prevent equipment downtime.
• Tool Proficiency: Skill in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Safety Compliance: Strict adherence to safety regulations, such as OSHA guidelines and using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Problem-Solving: Basic to intermediate ability to identify the root causes of issues and implement solutions.
• Attention to Detail: Precision in inspecting and repairing equipment to prevent future failures.
• Communication: Ability to clearly explain technical issues, write reports, and collaborate with team members, PE, QA, and production teams.
• Time Management: Ability to prioritize urgent repairs while managing scheduled maintenance tasks.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting up to 70 lbs., climbing, and working in tight spaces.
• Adaptability: Capacity to learn new technologies and adjust to changing procedures.
• Documentation: Ability to maintain accurate logs and updates work orders.
• Continuous Improvement: Willingness to suggest process and automation enhancements.

What You'll Bring

• Technical diploma or associate degree in Automation, Mechatronics, or Industrial Maintenance or high school diploma or equivalent and 5+ years of relevant work experience.
• 1-3 years of experience in injection molding maintenance and automation troubleshooting or 3-5 years of experience in other industrial or automation maintenance.
• Preferred certifications: Robotics programming, Vision system training, RJG Master Molder.
• Familiarity with CMMS’s, PLC interfaces, robotics, HMI’s, visions systems, and Microsoft 365 tools.
