Job summary

Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center is seeking a Surgical Technician to prepare the operating room and assist the surgical team during procedures. You will set up equipment, maintain sterility, and support the patient’s healing process in a fast-paced OR environment.

The role requires adaptability, teamwork, and enthusiasm for assisting complex surgeries, with responsibilities spanning instrument handling, tissue retraction, suctioning, and assisting with counts.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required at hire.
• Certified Surgical Technologist or equivalent certification required at hire.
• Technologist in Surgery-Certified certification preferred.
• Certified First Assistant - Certified Surgical Technologists certification preferred.
• Licensed Vocational Nurse license (TX) required at hire.
• Basic Life Support (CPR) certification within 14 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assists surgical team in the scrubbing role according to prescribed standards.
• Maintains sterile field. Reports immediately any breaks in aseptic technique.
• Passes instruments, suture products, medication, and sponge materials to surgeon.
• Assists with retracting of tissue and organs, and suctioning by holding the retracting instrument placed by the surgeon.
• Electrosurgical current may be applied as directed by the surgeon, to an established instrument placed by the surgeon.
• Performs surgical counts with the RN according to policy and procedure.

As our Surgical Tech, you will help prepare the operating room and surgical team so they can successfully perform a variety of surgical procedures for patients.

Every day you will set up surgical equipment and instruments, assist the surgical team, and ensure a sterile environment. You will be expected to adapt quickly, collaborate effectively within the OR team, and contribute directly to the patient's healing process.
