Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY: Provides perioperative patient care, specifically in the intraoperative phase, in both the scrub and circulating roles according to established guidelines. Serves a diverse patient population from neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, to geriatric. This position requires call, weekends, nights, and holidays as scheduled.

Employment Type: Full time

Shift: 12 Hour Day Shift

Responsibilities

• Scrubs and circulates on cases independently, with minimal direction.
• Prepares for surgical cases efficiently, anticipating needs of the patient, surgeon, anesthesia, and OR team members.
• Provides a safe environment by implementing aseptic techniques and controlling physical and psychological aspects of the environment.
• Collects and analyzes data, assesses patients, and develops nursing diagnoses.
• Communicates effectively with patients, staff, physicians, and families.
• Maintains knowledge of equipment setup and function.
• Initiates and directs room cleanup and turnover.

Additional Functions

• Participates in orientation and training of new personnel.
• Assists in maintaining physician's preference cards and other OR resources.
• Utilizes computer systems for surgical documentation and specimen disposition.
• Participates in departmental Performance Improvement activities.
• Attends department meetings and inservices.
