Job summary

Focus on the Family is seeking a Magazine Designer/Art Director I to lead the graphic design for print magazines and digital publications. You will direct concept development, supervise designers and freelancers, and collaborate with editorial to align with audience goals and the organization’s mission.

You will guide production, participate in editorial planning, and ensure high-quality design across media while maintaining the family-focused standards of Focus on the Family.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Graphics Art or equivalent work experience.
• 5-7 years professional design experience with an agency, studio, publisher, or equivalent.
• Understanding of design fundamentals for a wide range of creative challenges.
• Working knowledge of Focus on the Family mission, philosophy, values, and objectives.

Responsibilities

• Direct concept development, design, layout and art production for magazines and digital publications.
• Lead creative meetings and brainstorm sessions with the team.
• Oversee freelancers (designers, illustrators, photographers) and negotiations.
• Mentor and train other designers and coordinate photography and shoots.
• Ensure on-time delivery and maintain design quality and brand standards.
• Collaborate with editorial on project strategy and audience goals.
• Manage asset libraries and ensure archives are up-to-date.
