Description

The Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating manual and automated equipment, including lathes and welding systems, to perform machining, welding, and grinding operations on production materials. This role requires interpreting blueprints and specifications to produce components within tight tolerances, while troubleshooting equipment issues and maintaining accurate production and inspection records.

POSITION SUMMARY
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains a clean and orderly (6S) work area and equipment to ensure a safe and productive work environment and quality products.
  • Sets up and operates machining and welding equipment, including manual lathes and automated/manual welding systems
  • Performs machining (turning, boring, threading, drilling, grinding) and welding processes (MIG, TIG, Arc, Sub Arc, overlay) to meet production requirements
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings, and specifications to produce components within tight tolerances (up to .001”)
  • Selects and adjusts cutting tools, welding materials, and equipment settings based on material and job requirements
  • Inspects work using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, tape measures) and maintains accurate production and inspection records
  • Troubleshoots equipment and process issues, making necessary adjustments to ensure quality and efficiency
  • Operates material handling equipment (e.g., overhead crane, forklift) and uses hand tools safely and effectively
  • Follows all safety procedures and maintains a clean, organized work environment
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs other responsibilities as assigned and/or as needed to support company objectives.
  • Meets on-site attendance requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

  • 1–5 years of experience in machining and/or welding operations
  • Experience with manual lathe operation preferred
  • Experience with multiple welding processes (e.g., MIG, TIG, Arc) required
  • Surface grinding experience preferred
  • ASME certification may be required for certain welding applications

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments to hold tight tolerances
  • Knowledge of machining tools, cutting tools, and welding processes
  • Ability to calculate measurements using fractions and decimals
  • Familiarity with a variety of materials and their machining/welding requirements
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of safe tool usage and manufacturing practices
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Lift up to 30 lbs
  • Push/Pull up to 25% of the workday
  • Stand up to 100% of the workday
  • Bend/squat up to 25–75% of the workday
  • Periodic climbing, stepping, and reaching as required
