Job summary

Vaero is seeking a Machine Shop Lead in Jacksonville, FL for a 3rd shift (Fri-Sun, 5:00 am–3:30 pm). You will oversee a machinist team, manage setup and operation of CNC equipment, review blueprints, and drive safety, quality, and on-time production.

Strong leadership, hands-on machining, and CAD/CAM familiarity are essential. You will collaborate with engineers and planners to maintain production schedules, implement process improvements, and maintain records.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Accredited apprenticeship in a recognized trade preferred.
• Minimum of 5+ years of experience in machining, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of CNC machining, manual machining, and various manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency in reading blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
• Familiarity with CAD/CAM software is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC machines, lathes, mills, grinders, and other equipment.
• Review blueprints and specifications to determine machining processes and tooling needs.
• Troubleshoot production and machine issues to maintain quality and throughput.

This job is for 3rd shift that works the following schedule: Friday- Sunday 5am- 3:30pm

We are seeking a Machine Shop Lead, who will be responsible for overseeing and managing daily operation within the machine shop. The Machine Shop Lead is responsible for leading a team of machinists ensuring the production of high-quality parts in a timely and efficient manner. They will work closely with engineers, production planners, and other team members to meet production schedules and maintain a safe, organized, and productive work environment.

• Demonstrates skilled knowledge in machining.
• Must be able to demonstrate expert technical competencies related to machining.
• Oversee the setup, operation, and maintenance of various machines, including CNC machines, lathes, mills, grinders, and other manufacturing equipment.
• Review blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the appropriate machining processes and tool requirements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to machinery, production, or product quality.
• Lead, mentor, and train a team of machinists to ensure optimal performance and adherence to safety, quality, and production standards.
• Assign tasks and monitor the progress of each team member to ensure project deadlines are met.
• Maintain accurate records of machine maintenance, repairs, and production data.
• Supports safety, quality, details, cost, and people within designated work cell.
• Directly responsible for production output of cell(s), ensuring schedule and tact is attained with minimum scrap or waste.
• Manages KPIS and production metrics; monitors and provides solutions to maintain green reporting. Comfortable reporting out metrics status and recommendations to problem solve.
• Identifies and resolves technical issues and challenges within machining cells, collaborating cross-functionally with quality inspection, manufacturing engineering, and supply chain teams as needed.
• Continuously evaluates and suggest improvements to production processes to enhance efficiency and quality.
• Maintains accurate records of work performed, inspections conducted, and any deviations or corrective actions taken.
• Upholds strict safety protocols and practices, ensuring a safe work environment for all team members.
• Upload the core competencies and values of the Kaman organization.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
• Ability to effectively use advanced shop math.
• Must be able to use all varieties of precision measuring instruments.
