Magee Technologies (MTech) in the United States is seeking a Machinist IV to produce high-precision parts for defense and aerospace applications. This position is covered by the McNamara-O’Hara Service Contract Act (SCA) and is subject to the applicable U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) wage determination. Compensation, fringe benefits, and applicable paid leave will be provided in accordance with the SCA wage determination incorporated into the governing federal contract. The minimum hourly wage and health & welfare fringe benefit rate are set by the DOL and may be adjusted in accordance with contract modifications or updated wage determinations.

Impact Summary:

As a Machinist IV, you will play a critical role in producing high-precision parts and instruments vital for the operational success of defense-related machinery and equipment. Your expertise in machining will directly contribute to the manufacturing, maintenance, and repair of complex machinery, ensuring efficiency and readiness for crucial defense applications. This position requires high-level skills in both machine operation and problem-solving, directly impacting the quality and reliability of essential defense components.

Responsibilities:
  • Set up and operate various conventional machine tools including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drills to manufacture precision parts and components.
  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists to resolve technical challenges, contributing technical insights that influence design and functionality improvements.
  • Interpret complex blueprints, diagrams, and other specifications to accurately fabricate or repair mechanical instruments and parts.
  • Fabricate or modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
  • Utilize specialized machine tool attachments and precision measuring instruments to meet exacting tolerances and specifications.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of manufacturing, kitting, or repair projects by assessing required resources such as facilities, equipment, and manpower.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of machining processes and adhere to safety protocols and quality assurance standards.
Competencies:
  • CNC Operations & Programming: Proficiency in the setup, programming, and operation of a variety of machine tools, including conventional and CNC lathes, vertical/horizontal boring mills, and milling machines. Perform advanced 3 axis, 4 axis and 5 axis programming and CNC operations utilizing GibbsCAM software to manufacture complex, precision parts.
  • Modeling & Design Interpretation: Interpret mechanical design intent, blueprints, and 3D models to develop accurate solid models and establish precise part geometry in creation. Ensure flawless surfacing and dimensional accuracy for aerospace and mechanical components. Strong technical ability in reading and interpreting technical drawings and schematics.
  • Machining Strategy: Determine optimal machining parameters (speed & feed), tooling selection, and work-holding techniques to maximize operational efficiency, tool life, and the structural integrity of the final product.
  • Technical Collaboration & Integration: Work closely with project team leads, engineers, and shop personnel to translate requirements into actionable manufacturing and installation tasks. Devise methods to adapt or alter components to support design intent and fitment within larger mechanical or aircraft systems. Effective problem-solving skills, especially in technical and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Independent Initiative & Learner Mindset: Highly motivated to learn and adapt to emerging manufacturing technologies. Demonstrates a strong capability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage individual workloads, and make sound technical decisions. Detail-oriented with a commitment to precision and quality in all tasks.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration: Functions as a dedicated, active team player, coordinating and interfacing seamlessly with multi-disciplinary groups, project team leads, engineers, scientists, and shop floor personnel.
Requirements
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of 6 years' experience in machining operations, particularly in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain a wide range of machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drills to manufacture precision parts and components.
  • Familiarity with the defense industry’s standards and requirements is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Ability to work flexibly across different projects and to adapt to changing project requirements.
  • GibbsCAM proficiency and advanced CAD/CAM software training preferred.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance
Salary Information:

The estimated salary range for this position will be $35.64 -$49.03 per hour based on the successful candidates experience, qualifications, and skill set.
