Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Co in Manning, SC is seeking a Machinist IV to set up and operate multiple machine tools to produce precision components. You will work from drawings and specs to machine complex parts and perform NC programming where required.

The role requires thorough knowledge of machining procedures, hard metals, and measurement techniques. Onsite position with five days in the office at our Manning facility, reporting to the Senior Manufacturing Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of G and M codes and CAM software.
  • Experience with precision measuring instruments and inspection.
  • Background in machine tool technology or equivalent training.

Responsibilities

  • Machine complex components from drawings and diagrams.
  • Measure and test units using precision tools.
  • Set up and operate manual and CNC machines.
  • Program CNC tools and adjust feeds/speeds.
  • Guide tooling layouts to tolerances and dimensions.

About The Role

As a Machinist IV you will perform non-repetitive tasks of complex and difficult nature involving the set-up and operation of several machine tools to produce precision components. This role requires advanced application of knowledge in mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures to make or modify production parts, to make or repair machine tools and maintain industrial machines.

You will report to the Senior Manufacturing Supervisor and be located at our facility in Manning, South Carolina. This is an onsite position that requires 5 days in office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work from engineering drawings, rough sketches, production diagrams and verbal instructions to machine a variety of complex components.
  • Measure, visually examine, and test completed units for defects and to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate manual machines or machine tools to perform precision machining operations.
  • Program computers or electronic instruments, such as numerically controlled machine tools.
  • Determine operating methods and sequences; lay out, set up and machines precision components, tooling and fixtures to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
  • May support prototype development activities, working with design engineers and mechanical designers on the design feasibility of prototype machine parts and assemblies relative to form, fit and function.
  • Make complex calculations to layout difficult patterns and determine tooling feeds and speeds. Know the working qualities of several materials including aluminum, steel, copper, brass, other metals, plastics and exotics.
  • Inspect work for conformance to specifications.
  • Make recommendations for improvements in methods and processes related to improved productivity and quality.
  • Provide technical guidance related to the operations of machine tools and related equipment to the other machinists.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 7 years of experience or an associate’s degree in Machine Tool Technology.
  • Excellent knowledge of G and M Codes, AutoCAD, FeatureCam, and/or MasterCam.
  • Thorough understanding of manual, digital, and electronic measuring instruments.

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $58,656.00 to $73,320.00 per year.
