Job summary

Progress Rail, a Caterpillar Company, seeks a machinist for a third shift in Winston-Salem, NC. You will set up and operate CNC equipment, load materials, monitor processes, and perform quality checks in a climate-controlled, state-of-the-art facility.

Responsibilities include precision measurement with micrometers, tool maintenance, and adherence to safety policies. A production bonus program is available along with benefits on day one.

• Operates CNC machines to produce parts for mining and locomotive industries per customer specs and checklists.
• Operate CNC machines including horizontal mills, engine lathes, and manual grinders to produce finished components.
• Use precision gauges like micrometers to verify customer specifications.
• Maintain specifications by drilling, grooving and cutting, including turning, milling, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
• Operate overhead cranes and forklifts.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Perform all duties and responsibilities within time standards allowed.

Job Purpose: A machinist is responsible for a variety of CNC machine-specific functions—from setting-up equipment, loading materials and operating machinery, to monitoring and optimizing efficiency, maintaining machines and performing quality checks. A machinist will typically have the knowledge and ability to operate and maintain several machines.
