Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required with formal technical/vocational training in machining.
  • Experience in aerospace machining and five years of documented CNC/manual machining experience preferred.
  • Proficient in reading engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Ability to write, read, and edit G-code and use CAM software (Catia, Enroute, Gravostyle).
  • Familiarity with SAP for job tracking and time charging.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, set up, program, and machine on 3- and 5-axis CNC mills, multi-axis lathes, and grinders.
  • Work with Titanium, pre-hardened steels, and advanced alloys.
  • Inspect parts using precision measurement devices and GD&T.

Airbus is seeking a skilled and precision‑driven Machinist II to join our Machine Shop team at the Mobile U.S. Manufacturing facility. In this role, you will fabricate high‑tolerance aerospace components for A220 and A320 aircraft. The Machinist - Level II is an experienced role that will work with advanced multi‑axis CNC equipment and classic manual machinery (milling machines and lathes) to shape the future of flight. Your Challenges:
Position Summary:

Operates with a high degree of autonomy to execute complete setups, programming, and precision machining on complex 3- and 5- axis CNC mills, multi‑axis manual lathes, and specialized grinders. Serving as a technical resource, this role independently manages advanced material runs (including Titanium and pre‑hardened steels), edits G‑code, troubleshoots files, and collaborates across Engineering and Quality teams to ensure strict adherence to aerospace tolerances.

Primary Responsibilities:

Description % of Time Spent

Primary Machining & Tooling: 40%
  • Independently set up and execute complex machining runs from start to finish on a variety of multi‑axis machines (including 3- and 5- axis CNC mills, multi‑axis manual lathes, and specialized grinders).
  • Work confidently with challenging materials, including Titanium, pre‑hardened steels, and advanced alloys.
  • Fabricate standard tooling and fixtures necessary to complete complex machining operations safely.
CNC Programming & Editing: 25%
  • Read, write, and edit G‑code fluently at the machine controller or through CAM software (such as Catia).
  • Create, review, and correct DXF and NC files using software like Enroute or Gravostyle.
  • Select optimal cutting tools, speeds, and feeds for efficiency and surface finish.
Inspection & Quality Control: 15%
  • Interpret complex engineering plans, blueprints, and advanced Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Self‑inspect finished components using precision measuring devices (micrometers, indicators, height gages, bore gages) to ensure strict adherence to close aerospace tolerances; objectively manage rework vs. scrap choices.
Collaboration & Systems: 15%
  • Interface directly with Engineering and Quality Assurance teams to resolve production discrepancies.
  • Manage work orders, time charging, and data integrity within SAP.
  • Maintain machine calibration tracking and flag maintenance needs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 5S standards and aerospace safety protocols.

Required Experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of documented experience as a CNC/Manual Machinist, preferably in an aerospace, aviation, or high‑precision manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience working with hard/challenging aerospace alloys (such as Titanium, pre‑hardened steels, and aluminum alloys).
Required Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities
  • Deep understanding and ability to interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to write, read, and edit G‑code both within CAM software and directly at the machine tool controller.
  • Strong knowledge of tooling selection, tool setting, offsetting, setting work coordinates, and advanced inspection techniques.
  • Demonstrated capability to objectively evaluate own work to identify defect root causes, deciding when a part is re‑workable or must be scrapped.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, and Quality Assurance teams.
Required Technical Systems Proficiency
  • Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency with CAM software systems (such as Catia), CAD/drawing software, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with CNC control interfaces (such as Fanuc or Siemens controls).
  • Proficiency with file generation and correction software like EnRoute or Gravostyle (creating/correcting DXF and GNH.
  • Full proficiency navigating ERP software (SAP) for job tracking, time charging, and inventory management.
Preferred Licensure/Certifications
  • Active industry‑standard machining certifications (such as NIMS CNC setup/programming).
Travel Required
  • 5% or Less Domestic and/or International Travel is required for periodic training/observation.

Citizenship: Authorized to work in the US without current or future need for visa sponsorship.
