Job description

Job Purpose

Our Mayfield facility is looking for machinists to join our 3rd Shift (M-Th 8pm-6am) and Weekend Shift (Friday-Sunday 6am-6pm). This position will be responsible for a variety of machine-specific functions - from setting up equipment, loading materials and operating machinery, to monitoring and optimizing efficiency, maintaining machines and performing quality checks.

Key Job Elements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Operates various machines as part of the production process to produce parts for the locomotive industry in accordance with AAR, customer specifications, company guidelines and checklists.
  2. Operate manual machines including horizontal mills, engine lathes, and manual grinders to produce locomotive motor parts and axles.
  3. Use precision gauges and instruments such as micrometers to determine and follow customers specifications.
  4. Maintain specifications by observing, drilling, grooving and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  5. Operate overhead cranes and forklifts.
  6. Train other employees.
  7. Other duties as assigned.

Education / Training

Technical degree in machining preferred.

Qualifications and Experience

Preferred Skills:

  1. Possess expertise and/or certification in Advanced Welding Techniques.
  2. Hold Certification in Non‐Destructive Testing.
  3. Possess high level of machining aptitude.
  4. Read and interpret blueprints and drawings.

Essential and Physical Activities Functions

  1. Strength – Position requires lifting of 50lbs. Requires stamina and strength to work in tight and confined spaces while installing or repairing machinery and components.
  2. Motion – Position requires standing majority of the day. Frequent walking, squatting, kneeling and climbing of steps and stairs.
  3. Vision/Hearing Requirements – Position is exposed to high levels of noise and vibration from using tools. The use of proper PPE is required.
  4. Work Environment – Position can be located inside or outside, dependent on situation. Employees will work with oils and other lubricants.
  5. Emotional Demands – Employee is expected to work and cooperate as part of a team in order to meet production requirements.
  6. Safety – Position is safety sensitive as it requires working in and around live tracks and operation and repair of heavy equipment. Position requires strict adherence to safety policies and use of all PPE.
