Job summary

ELLWOOD Crankshaft Group in Hermitage, PA is seeking a Machinist I. This full-time, non-exempt role may require OT, weekends and rotating shifts as needed, operating grinders and precision measurement tools to finish parts per blueprint.

You will work with micrometers, calipers, and other gauges; prior machining experience is preferred. Candidates should have a HS diploma or GED, valid driver's license, and the ability to work a variety of schedules in a heavy manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Three or more years machining experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiar with general computer applications.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be results oriented with a strong desire to succeed.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient at operating forklifts, overhead cranes, and other heavy equipment.
  • Previous experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work a variety of work schedules and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Set-up and operate one or more grinding machines on a production basis for grinding surfaces to specification.
  • Set-up equipment according to product blueprint with little supervision.
  • Start and stop machinery.
  • Verify conformance using preset gauges and micrometers.
  • Replace and dress grinding wheels.
  • Adjust controls to vary depth of cut, grinding speed and feed rate.
  • Maintain accurate production and quality data records.
  • Keep equipment and work area clean and organized.
  • Maintain an accurate count of production pieces.
  • Support productivity and process goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

We are seeking a f/t Machinist I for our Hermitage, PA location. This non-exempt position could require OT, weekends and rotating shifts as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE
  • Prior machining ability
  • Mechanical ability
  • Previous manual grinding experience or equivalent education
  • Experience with micrometers, calipers and/or other precision measurement tools
  • Perform all work in line with safety rules
  • Set-up and operate one or more grinding machines on a production basis for the purpose of grinding the surface of manufacturing parts to specification
  • Set-up equipment according to specifications on product blueprint, with little or no supervision
  • Start and stop machinery
  • Verify conformance of work to specification using preset gauges and micrometers

  • Adjust controls in order to vary the dept. of cut, grinding speed and rate of feed
  • Accurate and timely reporting of all production and quality related data and records
  • Maintain the cleanliness and housekeeping responsibilities for the equipment and work area
  • Maintain an accurate count of production pieces
  • Support all productivity and process related goals
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical requirement: X Very Heavy This position will require occasional material handling up to 120 pounds which could include floor lifts, shoulder lifts, overhead lifts, etc. The position will require frequent material handling up to 70 pounds. The position will require frequent bending and squatting and constant standing, walking and reaching.

Visual acuity requirement - Includes color, depth perception and field of vision: X Close visual acuity Visual inspection involving small defects of parts such as rust, burrs, debris using visual inspection devices close to the eye or at a distance. Ability to see lifting equipment placement when loading, unloading, moving parts.

Working Conditions: X Manufacturing environment with some exposure to loud noises, changing temperatures, machinery with moving parts
