Job summary

Heartland Food Products Group is seeking a skilled R.A.M. Team Tech./Machinist at our Indianapolis manufacturing plant. The role involves hands-on fabricating, repairing and prototyping parts for production, using manual mills and lathes, with a focus on precision and safety.

You will read engineering drawings, clamp parts, set up machines, and work with electrical teams on projects. Strong communication and reliability are essential, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience with Bridgeport style mill and lathe.
  • Ability to read and decipher schematics, blueprints, mechanical drawings, general assembly drawings and P&ID drawings.
  • Ability to use mechanical and digital measuring instruments with extreme precision and accuracy.
  • Experience with fabricating parts within OEM specifications, familiarity with equipment typically found in a manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Bridgeport-style milling machines and other manual machine tools to fabricate precision parts from engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Set up, machine, and inspect components while maintaining tight tolerances and high-quality workmanship.
  • Perform layout, drilling, boring, tapping, fabrication to support equipment repairs and new projects.
  • Knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining; fabricate difficult parts.
  • Install large industrial equipment; rigging experience is a plus.
  • Select tools, machines, and materials for preparation of work.
  • Aid in troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of equipment in the entire plant.
  • Maintain professional standards of quality and craftsmanship.
  • Maintain a safe, organized work area and ensure tools are maintained and functional.
  • All other duties and projects assigned.

Scope:

The R.A.M. Team Tech. /Machinist

Uses technical expertise and extreme attention to detail to complete all assignments. Works with manual lathe and mill to repair, modify and proto-type parts for production facility. Works in fab shop as a fabricator. Also works hands on with rigging and electrical teams to complete all assigned tasks. Always ensures the highest levels of craftsmanship and quality are maintained. This role is for Heartland’s Reliable Asset Management shop (R.A.M. Team).

Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate Bridgeport-style milling machines and other manual machine tools to fabricate precision parts from engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Set up, machine, and inspect components while maintaining tight tolerances and high-quality workmanship.
  • Perform layout, drilling, boring, tapping, fabrication to support equipment repairs and new projects.
  • Knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining. Machining and technical experience to fabricate difficult parts.
  • Install large industrial equipment. Rigging experience is a plus!
  • Selects the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of work.
  • Aid in troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of equipment in the entire plant.
  • Conducts him/herself to the highest professional standards of quality and craftsmanship.
  • Maintain a safe, organized work area and ensure machine tools are properly maintained and in good working condition.

  • Must be able to work in high elevation. Can not be afraid of heights
  • Must be able to work in harsh environments. Cold, hot, dusty, windy, load confined spaces, etc.
  • Must have ability to effectively communicate in English both written and verbally.
  • Must work well in a team environment and have strong communication skills
  • Must have strong critical thinking and technical troubleshooting abilities
  • High sense of urgency and customer support
  • Must have good job performance and attendance records
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid US passport
  • Must be able to travel

  • Must be able to physically perform the functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
