Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Mesa, AZ is seeking a Machinist 3 for the Armament Systems Business Unit on a second shift (4x10, 3:00 – 1:30 A.M.).

You will fabricate components to engineering drawings, operate CNC lathes and mills, follow blueprints, measure parts with gauges, and maintain equipment while contributing to lean improvements in a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma with at least 4 years CNC lathe/mill experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and planning sheets.
  • Experience with manual and CNC machines including reworking parts.
  • Attention to quality and safety; US citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC lathes and mills, turning, milling, drilling, tapping, and reaming parts.
  • Set feeds, speeds, and depth of cut to machine quality parts.
  • Deburr machined parts using hand and power tools.
  • Inspect parts for conformance with specifications using gauges, calipers, and micrometers.
  • Maintain equipment and actively participate in lean initiatives.
  • Work in a team environment and follow instructions with minimal supervision.

Northrop Grumman has 5 openings for a Machinist 3 for our Armament Systems Business Unit located in Mesa, AZ.

Armament Systems is a leading supplier of integrated medium-caliber weapon systems for land, air and sea platforms through its world renowned Bushmaster® line of automatic cannons produced at its Mesa, Arizona facility.

This is a second shift position: Hours: M-Th 4x10, 3:00 – 1:30 A.M.

Role Description & Responsibilities

The Machinist is responsible for fabrication of various components and samples that meet design specifications. Operates various conventional and/or numerically controlled machining centers, lathes, and surface grinders on semi-complex jobs. Able to work from blueprints, sketches, planning sheets, verbal instructions, and/or engineering, tooling, or equipment information. Contributes to organizational initiatives to increase productivity and reduce costs. Works with limited guidance, in a team environment.

Job Duties
  • Position requires a High School Degree with a Minimum of 4 years Experience on CNC Lathes and Mills in a machining environment.
  • Ability to follow written, electronic and verbal instructions and work with minimal supervision.
  • Perform manual and CNC machine operations (including reworking parts) such as turning, milling, forming, drilling, tapping, and reaming parts.
  • Adjusts feeds, speeds, and depth of cut to machine quality parts.
  • Operates hand and power tools to deburr precision and complex machined parts in accordance with semi-complicated engineering blueprints.
  • Inspects parts for conformance to specifications using measuring instruments such as gages, calipers, and micrometers. Visually inspects parts for burrs or damaged machined surfaces.
  • Routinely maintains equipment to ensure cleanliness, accuracy, and reliability.
  • Actively implements lean initiatives by identifying and providing suggestions on areas for improvement. Effectively applies lean concepts and tools in work area.
  • Observes all company policies and procedures, especially safety rules, and maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Experience working in a team environment, collaborating with group members in problem solving.
  • Must be a US Citizen

Primary Level Salary Range: $52,700.00 - $87,900.00

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
