Job summary

PennEngineering® located in Shelby Township, MI is seeking experienced CNC Machinists to operate and maintain milling and lathe equipment. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of machining experience, especially in prototype work, and proficiency in programming CNC machines.

Key responsibilities include selecting appropriate equipment settings, performing preventive maintenance, and collaborating with engineering teams for product improvements. The role offers a supportive and inclusive work environment with various benefits.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of production machining experience, especially with prototypes.
  • Experience writing programs for CNC machines, preferably Mazak/Haas.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

What You Will Do
  • Operate and maintain CNC milling and lathe machines, including both vertical and horizontal milling.
  • Machine parts and/or assemblies from various materials in prototype and/or small volume production quantities as directed.
  • Create tool paths from product data and design engineering inputs; develop process sheets to instruct manufacturing methods.
  • Review drawings, instructions, blueprints or samples to ensure accurate production.
  • Write programs for CNC machines.
  • Select appropriate equipment and settings for a given task.
  • Plan proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignment.
  • Set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut.
  • Identify opportunities for product improvement and collaborate with engineering team to better serve our end customer.
  • Perform machine preventive maintenance and minor repairs as needed.
  • Use precision measuring tools, e.g., micrometers, air gauges, dial bore gauges, dial indicators, calipers.
  • Complete work instructions as required.
  • Ensure department meets 5S targets as directed by Shop Supervisor.
  • Compute dimensions and tolerances; measure and lay out workpieces.
  • Adjust and set up machining equipment and tooling for use by machine operator(s).
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years in production machining, emphasis on prototype experience.
  • Experience writing programs for mills and lathes, preferably with MasterCAM for Mazak/Haas machines.
  • Ability to read engineering prints and work instructions.
  • Skilled with mechanics, hand and power tool operations.
  • Highly professional with strong communication skills (oral and written) to interact with customers, work in teams, and create reports.
  • Safety & Quality Focus.
  • Basic computer and Office 365 knowledge.
  • Strong analytical ability, including statistical analysis skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and work multiple tasks to completion.
  • Ability to collaborate and work in team environment and to work independently or with little supervision.
