Responsibilities

Job description

Overview

The Machinist is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and aligning industrial machinery and mechanical equipment to ensure safe and reliable plant operations. This position works with pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, compressors, motors, turbines, blowers, industrial fans, and other production equipment while adhering to all safety and maintenance procedures. The Machinist is also responsible for safely operating mobile, overhead, or hydraulic cranes to lift, move, position, and place materials, equipment, and personnel as required. Also be responsible for inspecting, testing, repairing, calibrating, and certifying pressure relief valves, safety valves, and related pressure control devices to ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Install, assemble, dismantle, and relocate industrial machinery and equipment
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on mechanical systems
  • Troubleshoot mechanical failures and determine root causes of equipment issues
  • Repair and replace bearings, shafts, couplings, belts, chains, seals, and other mechanical components
  • Align motors, pumps, and rotating equipment using precision alignment tools and techniques
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and equipment drawings
  • Perform precision measurements using micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, and laser alignment equipment
  • Conduct equipment inspections and document maintenance activities
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance personnel to minimize downtime
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and company policies
  • Assist with shutdowns, turnarounds, and major maintenance projectt
  • Operate hydraulic cranes up to 35 tons safely and efficiently
  • Operate rigging and lifting equipment safely when moving machinery and components
  • Operate manlifts safely and efficiently
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, disassemble, clean, repair, and reassemble pressure relief valves and safety valves
  • Perform valve testing and calibration using certified test equipment
  • Verify valve performance and critical dimensions according to ASME, API, National Board, and customer specifications
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and repair procedures
  • Diagnose valve malfunctions and recommend corrective actions
  • Complete maintenance, repair, testing, and certification documentation accurately
  • Operate valve testing equipment, lathes, grinders, and other shop machinery as required
  • Maintain calibration records and quality control documentation
  • Identify replacement parts and assist with inventory control
  • Participate in continuous improvement and reliability programs
  • Communicate repair findings and recommendations to supervisors
