Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Complete Machining Diploma or equivalent by July 2026 (or currently enrolled).
  • Journeyman’s Card required or must complete apprenticeship if not possessed.
  • Five years of manufacturing machining or tool making experience (or equivalent).
  • Military service equivalent in pay grade E-6 or above (NEC codes listed).
  • Must be a US Citizen; able to obtain DOE clearance.
  • VMET and JQR documentation required when uploading resume.
  • Must meet WorkKeys assessment standards.

Responsibilities

On-site in Lynchburg, Virginia

Your Day to Day as a Machinist:
  • Read and interpret design drawings, blueprints, and procedures.
  • Perform calculations to determine accurate setups and layouts for machining tasks.
  • Selects tooling, machine feeds and speeds, lubricants and fixtures.
  • Perform machining operations safely, adjusting as needed to maintain tight tolerances, ensure quality, and productivity standards.
  • Inspect workpieces to verify conformance with specifications using measuring instruments.
  • Perform over-inspections of work completed by other machinists per company procedures.
  • Monitor equipment performance and conduct or assist with routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Work with engineering staff to revise or improve procedures, drawings, and determine optimal equipment/tooling setups.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records, logs, and documentation related to all work.
  • Utilize a range of manual and automated machinery, precision measuring tools, and hand tools efficiently and safely.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisors or management.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must also meet one (1) of the following training/experience requirements :
  • Must have successfully completed a Machining Diploma or an equivalent program from a recognized trade school or community college (minimum 2-year accredited program) by July 2026 .
  • Must have successfully graduated (or currently enrolled) in the Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) Machining program.
  • A State Certified Machinist Journeyman's Card is required. (The Journeyman's Card or required diploma must be completed prior to July 2026 to be considered for an interview. If hired with no Journeyman's Card, the candidate must agree to complete the apprenticeship program.)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in manufacturing machining or tool making (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Military Service equivalent in pay grade E-6 or above. One or more of the following Navy Enlisted Classifications (NEC) or other service branch specific equivalent:
  • Machinery Repairman or service equivalent
  • U32A Computer Numerically Controlled Machinist
  • U33A NAMTS Inside Machinist

Verification of Military Experience and Training (VMET, DD Form 2586) and Job Qualification Requirement (JQR) documentation are required when uploading resume.

  • Successful candidates must meet the required WorkKeys assessment standards.
  • Must be highly motivated, with a focus on attention to detail.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance
