Allegion is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist in Indiana to program Hurco 3-axis VMCs, set up tooling, and run mills to produce parts to exact specifications.

You will read engineering drawings and GD&T, optimize processes, and maintain a clean, safe workspace following 5S principles. This role supports a culture of precision and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Highschool Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 2+ years CNC machining setup and operation experience.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Feeds and speeds understanding and workholding knowledge.
  • G-code / M-code basics and material properties awareness.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM programming.

Responsibilities

  • Program Hurco 3-axis VMCs using conversational Hurco, WinMax/Max 5, G-code or CAD/CAM.
  • Define work-holding, tooling, offsets and establish proper WCS.
  • Set up, prove out, and operate CNC mills to spec.
  • Interpret drawings and GD&T; perform first piece and in-process inspections.
  • Improve processes to reduce cycle times and setup overhead.
  • Perform Autonomous Maintenance and keep the workspace clean per 5S.

Core Responsibilities
  • Programming: Program Hurco 3-axis VMCs using Hurco Conversational programming (on WinMax / Max 5 control), manual G-code, or Autodesk Fusion CAM
  • Setup & Tooling: Define work-holding strategies (vises, custom soft jaws, fixtures, etc.), select appropriate tooling, set up tool geometry/offsets, and establish an appropriate Work Coordinate System for the part / job.
  • Machining & Execution: Safely set up, prove out, and operate CNC mills to produce parts to spec.
  • Quality & Inspection: Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T specifications. Perform first piece and in-process inspections using standard metrology tools.
  • Process Optimization: Continuously improve the process for repeat jobs as well as recommend process improvements and fixture designs to reduce cycle times and setup overhead.
  • Shop Maintenance & Safety: Perform Autonomous Maintenance for CNC machines (Clean, Inspect, Lubricate) and maintain a clean, organized work area by following 5S principles.
Minimum Skills Required
  • Highschool Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 2+ Years of CNC Machining setup and operating experience
  • Understanding of Fundamental machining concepts:
    o Feeds and speeds Calculations across various materials (Stainless Steels, Mild Steels, Brass, and Aluminum)
    o Work holding theory and solid setup practices
    o Work Coordinate systems & Tool offsets
    o Basic G and M codes, and basic material properties when machining.
  • Proven ability to read engineering prints, drawings, and understand basic geometric tolerances.
  • Experience programming via conversational interfaces, manual G-code, or a CAD/CAM package.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
Preferred Skills
  • Associate degree in Precision Machining, Manufacturing Technology, a completed Apprenticeship, or equivalent
  • Autodesk Fusion CAD/CAM experience
  • CNC Lathe setup and programming experience
  • Familiarity with Hurco machining centers and their WinMax / Max 5 control
  • Manual Machining experience on, Lathes, Mills, and Surface grinders
  • Modern machining concepts like trochoidal milling, adaptive machining strategies, chip thinning, etc.
  • Experience with Parametric/Variable G-code programming for production programs
  • Experience with lean principles like TPS, or People Centric Lean
