Job summary

Manpower SD Metro North in San Diego, CA is seeking an experienced Machinist to support fabrication, modification, and maintenance of precision components for atmospheric water production systems. Work includes turning, milling, drilling, and inspection in a collaborative R&D environment.

Qualified candidates have 2–5 years of machining experience, proficiency with CNC (Haas/Mazak), and the ability to read drawings and GD&T. Shift is 1st, weekdays, with pay DOE.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years machining experience in production or R&D environments.
• Experience with manual and CNC machine tools.
• Ability to read drawings and GD&T callouts.
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, CMM).
• Familiarity with aluminum, stainless steel, plastics.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools (lathes, mills, drills, grinders).
• Fabricate precision parts to drawings and CAD models.
• Read blueprints and GD&T callouts for tolerances.
• Perform in-process and final inspections with calipers and micrometers.
• Maintain and calibrate machine tools and shop equipment.
• Collaborate with engineers to improve manufacturability.
• Assist mechanical assembly of prototype systems.
• Document machining parameters, work orders, and inspection results.
• Monitor material inventory and communicate low-stock needs.
• Maintain clean, safe work environment and follow safety procedures.
• Support production scale-up as volumes increase.

Pay: $30.00-$39.00/hour (DOE)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Machinist to support the fabrication, modification, and maintenance of precision mechanical components used in next-generation atmospheric water production systems. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a collaborative R&D environment where you'll help transform engineering designs into functional prototypes and support early-stage manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, drill presses, and grinders.
• Fabricate precision parts to engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications.
• Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T callouts, and dimensional tolerances.
• Perform in-process and final inspections using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
• Maintain and calibrate machine tools and shop equipment.
• Collaborate with engineers to improve manufacturability and optimize component designs.
• Assist with mechanical assembly and fit-up of prototype systems.
• Document machining parameters, work orders, and inspection results.
• Monitor material inventory and communicate low-stock needs.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and clean machine shop while following all company safety procedures.
• Support production scale-up as manufacturing volumes increase.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Machinist apprenticeship, vocational training, or Associate's degree in Machining or Manufacturing Technology preferred.
• 2-5 years of machining experience in a production, prototype, or R&D environment.
• Strong experience operating manual machining equipment.
• CNC machining experience (Haas, Mazak, or similar) strongly preferred.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications.
• Knowledge of machining aluminum, stainless steel, plastics (HDPE, PTFE), and other materials.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, and CMM.
• Welding (TIG/MIG), sheet metal fabrication, or mechanical assembly experience is a plus.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
