Job summary

Novelis Bay Minette seeks a skilled Machinist to produce and repair precision components for maintenance, reliability, outages, and breakdown support. You will operate conventional and CNC equipment, verify dimensions, and ensure safe, accurate machine‑shop work.

Reporting to the Supervisor - Machine Shop & Fabrication Shop, you will interpret drawings, follow tolerances, and collaborate with maintenance, reliability, engineering, planning, and operations to keep production running smoothly at

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with three or more years of relevant machining or equivalent trade experience.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings, perform shop mathematics, operate conventional machine tools, and use precision measuring instruments.
• Ability to work onsite and provide flexible shifts, outages, overtime, weekends, and emergency support.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate conventional CNC machine tools.
• Interpret drawings, job scopes, tolerances, and material requirements.
• Machine and repair industrial shafts, sleeves, bushings, pins, fits, threads, and related components.
• Inspect work using precision measuring instruments and document results.
• Maintain safe setups, machine guarding, tooling, equipment condition, and housekeeping.
• Coordinate with maintenance, reliability, engineering, planning, operations, and fabrication personnel.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Novelis Bay Minette team is seeking a Machinist to produce and repair precision industrial components for maintenance, reliability, startup, outages, and breakdown support. Reporting to the Supervisor - Machine Shop & Fabrication Shop, this role operates conventional and CNC equipment, verifies critical dimensions, and delivers safe, accurate, and timely machine-shop work.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate conventional CNC machine tools.
• Interpret drawings, job scopes, tolerances, and material requirements.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Experience

• Technical diploma, apprenticeship, journeyman experience, or NIMS credentials.
• CNC setup or programming, CAD/CAM, repair machining, industrial maintenance, SAP PM or CMMS, and crane or rigging experience.

Location Profile

Novelis' newly announced Bay Minette facility will be located 35 miles northeast of Mobile AL and 45 miles west of Pensacola FL and is expected to create approximately 1000 high-paying advanced careers in modern manufacturing. This highly advanced rolling and recycling facility will be the first of its kind. It will primarily serve our customers in the beverage can and automotive markets.
