Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and operates various secondary production machines.
  • Performs light bench, hand and assembly operations in the department.
  • Makes minor adjustments to the process or machine after tasks are assigned.
  • Assists in set up and operation of standard and specialized machines.
  • Learns setup and operation of new machines added to the department.
  • Checks parts with gauges or precision instruments and submits parts for inspection as required.
  • Operates machines to ensure proper functioning and releases to operators per specifications.
  • Performs SPC charting as required.
  • Keeps the work area clean, safe, and orderly daily.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand English.
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 30 lbs.

Responsibilities

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Machine Tech I in our Torrance, CA location. HFS is a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, headquartered in Torrance, California. We hold the number one global position in aerospace fastening systems, and we’re the North American leader in commercial transportation fasteners. Our high-tech, multi-material fastening systems are found nose to tail on aircraft and aerospace engines. Our products are also critical components of industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, and construction and industrial equipment.

Primary Purpose

Sets up and operates various secondary production machines. Operator will also perform light bench, hand and assembly operations in the department to which assigned. Operator will be held to established production and quality standards. Operator will have control to make minor adjustments to the process or machine after tasks are assigned.

Major Activities
  • Assists in set up and operation of all standard and specialized machines
  • Assists in machine set up, according to work order and standard set up procedure
  • Learns the set up and operation of any new machines added to the departments to which assigned
  • Checks parts with standard gauges or precision measuring instruments and submits parts for inspection as required
  • Operates machines to ensure proper functioning and releases to and instructs operator in procedures for producing parts in conformance with specifications
  • Perform SPC Charting as required
  • Keeps work area clean, safe, and in an orderly fashion on a daily basis
  • Performs other tasks as required
  • Must have good communication skills and know basic shop math
  • Must be able to read, write and understand English
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 30 lbs. (may not exceed per EHS Policies)
Basic Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)preferred.
