Machining Engineer

Role Overview

The Machining Engineer II is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of machining and manufacturing processes. This role works closely with cross‑functional teams—including operations, technicians, sourcing, and project management—to drive safety, quality, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.

This position requires hands‑on technical expertise, problem‑solving, and ownership of assigned processes and projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer‑focused, developing self & others, and ownership
• Support new process introduction, process qualification, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve machining and manufacturing issues.
• Analyze process data, metrics, and performance indicators to identify inefficiencies and implement solutions.
• Develop, update, and maintain machining process plans (MPPs), work instructions, and technical documentation.
• Support integration of new tooling, equipment, and technologies to improve efficiency and reduce cost.
• Experience with CNC machine programming using MasterCAM.
• Partner with design engineering and supply chain to support design for manufacturability (DFM).
• Ensure compliance with engineering standards, best practices, and quality requirements.
• Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities for nonconformances.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, lead time, and cost reduction.
• Provide technical guidance and support to shop floor personnel as needed.
• Drive a shop‑centric mindset by maintaining strong engagement with machining operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline required or 7+ years of related experience.
• Experience in gas turbine or heavy manufacturing environments preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in a machining or manufacturing environment.
• Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and process documentation.
• Ability to write technical reports, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
• Solid understanding of machining processes (e.g., CNC machining, tooling, fixturing, GD&T preferred).
• Ability to analyze data and apply basic statistical and mathematical concepts to problem‑solving.
• Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to work independently on moderately complex issues.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with engineering systems (e.g., CAD, ERP/MRP systems preferred).
• Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and functions.
• Experience with process optimization, automation, or lean manufacturing.
