Job description

Company Overview

Medical Equipment Contractors (MEC) is a specialized rigging and logistics company focused on the safe transportation, delivery, and placement of sensitive medical equipment, including MRI machines, CT scanners, and other high‑value diagnostic devices. Serving hospitals, clinics, and medical manufacturers, we go beyond traditional rigging by delivering dependable, end‑to‑end solutions that support patient care and operational continuity. Our team combines precision execution, technical expertise, and a customer‑first mindset to ensure every installation is handled with care, professionalism, and attention to detail—helping our clients deliver critical healthcare services with confidence.

Position Overview

MEC is seeking a skilled and dependable Machinery Mover/Rigger to join our operations team. This role performs specialized work involving the safe transport, rigging, delivery, and placement of sensitive medical equipment in hospitals, laboratories, and clinical environments.

This is more than basic material handling—it requires precision, mechanical aptitude, and a strong understanding of rigging principles in high‑stakes, customer‑facing settings. Employees work in clean, highly professional healthcare environments where safety, attention to detail, and customer confidence are critical.

As a Level 2 team member, you will operate with limited supervision, independently executing standard jobs while supporting more complex work. You will also play a key role in reinforcing safety, quality, and proper techniques and procedures with less experienced team members. This is a strong skilled‑trade opportunity with growth into lead‑level responsibilities.

Core Responsibilities
  • Perform safe loading, unloading, rolling, skidding, hoisting, and final placement of sensitive medical equipment
  • Plan and execute path of travel, accounting for center of gravity, clearances, and site constraints
  • Select and properly use rigging and moving equipment including gantries, forklifts, lift gates, skates, toe jacks, cribbing, bars, straps, and chains
  • Oversee loading, protection, securement, and transport preparation of equipment in accordance with manufacturer standards and DOT requirements
  • Assist with equipment de‑crating/crating, disassembly/assembly, leveling, anchoring, securement, and basic mechanical alignment
  • Conduct accurate pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle and equipment inspections (when driving)
  • Identify jobsite hazards and actively participate in pre‑task planning and safety discussions
  • Maintain strict “white glove” standards, protecting equipment, as well as floors, walls, etc. in a sensitive environment
  • Communicate clearly with crew leads, operations, hospital staff, manufacturer, and customer representatives
  • Support and guide Level 1 employees, demonstrating and reinforcing proper methods and safety practices
  • Execute standard jobs and assist with more complex, multi‑piece, or high‑risk moves
  • Work flexible schedules, including overtime and weekends, with periodic travel primarily within the Mid‑Atlantic region based on customer needs
Skills Required for Success
  • Strong understanding of rigging fundamentals, including load balance, equipment limits, and safe handling practices
  • Ability to operate and maintain a wide range of specialized moving and rigging equipment
  • Mechanical aptitude with hands‑on problem‑solving ability
  • High attention to detail in clean, occupied healthcare environments
  • Professional presence with strong customer‑facing communication skills
  • Commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
  • 1–3+ years of experience in rigging, placement, specialty moving, delivery, or mechanical field work
  • Working knowledge of equipment handling, load securement, and jobsite safety
  • Ability to safely use rigging tools and specialty moving equipment
  • Valid driver’s license required; Class B or Class A CDL, upon employment, or willingness to obtain is strongly preferred
  • Premium paid for valid Class A or Class B CDL upon employment, or willingness to obtain is strongly preferred
  • Willingness to travel regionally and support variable schedules
  • Ability to travel periodically, including overnight and weekends
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred
  • Forklift certification or hands‑on experience preferred
  • Prior experience handling medical equipment or other high‑value industrial equipment preferred
  • NCCCO Rigger or similar certification preferred
