Overview.ai in San Francisco is seeking a Machine Vision Applications Engineer to own imaging feasibility in our lab. You will work with real parts, lighting, lenses, cameras, and geometry to prove that an inspection can be imaged reliably, documenting what works and why.

You’ll run trials, build POCs for Sales and Applications, and help shape hardware decisions as our lab scales. This is a hands-on, ownership‑driven role with strong growth potential.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience selecting and configuring lighting, lenses, and cameras for inspection/measurement.
• Experience running imaging trials, feasibility studies, or proof-of-concept testing on customer or production samples.
• Understanding optical trade-offs: lens selection, FOV, working distance, DOF, resolution.
• Comfortable with hardware, running experiments, and solving problems independently.
• Able to document findings clearly and explain trade-offs to customers and teams.
• Based in the SF Bay Area or willing to relocate to SF office.

Responsibilities

• Imaging feasibility: run trials to determine reliable imaging of inspections.
• Lighting and optics: configure lighting, lenses, cameras, filters, and geometry for each application.
• Lab ownership: set up SF lab, establish standards, inventory, sample handling, and result recording.
• POC testing: build and document proofs-of-concept for Sales and Applications.
• Image quality troubleshooting: resolve issues causing false rejects or defects.
• Hardware evaluation: test new cameras, lenses, and lighting; recommend stack items.
• Findings and documentation: write up results to guide future engineers.
