Job summary

A Tool Manufacturing Firm in Sterling Heights, MI is seeking a Machine Tool Technician to install, service, retool and maintain Deep Rolling equipment. The role involves travel to customer sites across the US, Mexico, and Canada, with a strong emphasis on mechanical diagnostics and hands-on repair.

Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelors Degree in a technical field (mechatronics or engineering preferred) OR 3-5 years of related experience in similar field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are REQUIRED
  • Strong mechanical aptitude REQUIRED
  • Ability to read and utilize technical documents REQUIRED
  • Excellent time management skills REQUIRED
  • Must be a self-motivated individual and be able to hit the ground running meeting the company’s and client’s needs
  • Strong working knowledge of how mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic processes integrate to ensure efficient machine operation
  • Experience in troubleshooting CNCs and/or PLCs a PLUS
  • Customer-Oriented mentality; able to clearly communicate technical information
  • Must work well with people
  • Must combine professionalism and enthusiasm in approach to work
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite of products
  • Must possess and unrestricted Drivers License

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble, inspect, and recondition tooling or machine components to locate damaged or worn parts
  • Perform mechanical assembly, disassembly, alignment, and adjustments on machine tool components including spindles, slides, bearings, couplings, and drive systems
  • Use drawings, blueprints, and precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, CMM, height gages, SPC) to verify dimensions
  • Troubleshoot mechanical systems such as pistons, rams, pulleys, belts, gears, and lubrication systems
  • Diagnose and repair failures of mechanical systems to restore proper operation
  • Use electrical schematics to test and troubleshoot supporting electrical systems including switches, PLCs, PCs, sensors, and motors
  • Understand PLC function and troubleshoot machine I/Os (experience in PLC programming a plus)
  • Use hydraulic schematics to test and troubleshoot hydraulic power systems
  • Operate crankshaft measurement and testing equipment; compile and maintain records in accordance with specifications
  • Assist with shipping and receiving activities as needed
  • Operate pallet stacker / forklift as required
  • Testing machines to verify calibration, accuracy, and overall operation
  • Start-up and debug of newly manufactured or rebuilt machines both in the companies USA factory and at customer facilities
  • Travel both domestic and international is REQUIRED. Travel will be about 40-50% which may include weekends
  • Lifting 40 to 50 lbs. on a regular basis

TheMachine Tool Technicianperforms all activities associated with installing, servicing, retooling and maintaining the companies Deep Rolling equipment. This role will require travel to customer sites to service machines throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
