WilliamsRDM is looking for a Machine Shop Supervisor to provide leadership, work direction, and supervision of workers performing machining, machine operation and secondary operation tasks. Plans and assigns work to ensure production and improvement goals are met. Responsible for maintaining product quality standards, ensuring a high level of work performance by team members, and providing coaching and discipline to machine shop team members as necessary; enforces policies and work rules in a fair and consistent manner, and ensures that safety and housekeeping standards are met. Implements continuous improvements to manufacturing processes and systems. Leads and participates in implementing best practices. Conceptualizes, designs and implements machines, fixtures, tooling etc.. Reviews incoming bids & proposals and new orders for manufacturability, tooling requirements, quality provisions and other production related concerns. Responsible to ensure ISO/AS9100 department requirements are met and followed.

Job Responsibilities
  • Supervises workers performing machining, secondary operation and injection molding tasks.
  • Trains employees on job functions and safety requirements. In conjunction with the Training/HR Manager, develops training matrices for departments and employees.
  • Conducts performance reviews and overall personnel management of the Machine Shop.
  • Responsible for proper scheduling of personnel, jobs and subsequent measures such as efficiency and utilization of equipment. Must adhere to quality targets and objectives.
  • Leads and participates in continuous improvement projects involving Lean, Six Sigma, Setup Reduction, etc.
  • Responsible for manufacturing engineering related issues in Machine Shop including setups, work instructions, process flows, quality requirements, layouts, etc.
  • Review bids, proposals and new contracts for issues which impact areas of responsibility including Quality requirements, tooling, manufacturability, accuracy of drawings, etc.
  • Supports manufacturing troubleshooting while driving to root cause resolution.
  • Develops, designs, and implements new manufacturing processes and techniques.
  • Analyzes, develops, recommends and implements solutions to meet production requirements for new or improved products and/or processes.
  • Leads offline programming efforts
  • Quantitative analysis and tracking of measurements such as cycle times, workload, capacity, inventory, levels, etc.
  • Justifies, specifies, obtains approval, orders, and installs processes, tooling and equipment.
  • Follows quality policy and procedures, OSHA guidelines and regulations governing workplace safety.
  • Performs other duties as requested by the Operations Director.
Education & Training

BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing or equivalent.

Skills & Experience
  • Minimum of five years machine shop experience in a related manufacturing industry (machining, electro-mechanical assembly, SMT , etc.).
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and capability in equipment operating and maintenance procedures, product quality, manufacturing processes and system integration.
  • Demonstrated CAD & CAM experience (preferably Pro-E or Autocad and Part Maker)
  • Proven ability in communicating expectations, monitoring performance utilizing common measurements, and holding employees accountable.
  • Knowledge in machining processes from entry-level to highly complex tasks, such as mechanics, properties of metals and machine procedures, uses of various metals, etc.
  • Knowledge and exposure to injection molding and processing.
  • Excellent people, leadership and organization skills, strong management skills and the ability to motivate employees.
  • Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Experience with Mazak brand machines and Mazatrol programming language
  • Diagnose and help perform minor repairs on CNC and conventional machines
  • Proficient with conventional and digital measurement tools and equipment, calipers, mics, height gauge, thread gauges, etc.
  • Communicate frequently, clearly, and effectively at all levels, in writing and verbally; write concise reports for all levels of employees.
  • Organize work for self and others.
  • Develop system or process to ensure timely fulfillment of production orders.
  • Maintain organized tracking/status information.
  • Be accountable for meeting deadlines, and hold co-workers accountable for same.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective interpersonal working relationships with others, including the ability to effectively lead the resolution of issues or conflicts.
  • Analyze data and translate it into meaningful information, recommendations, and action.
  • Use a computer including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.) and ERP/MRP.
  • Handle multiple projects/tasks effectively in a fast-paced, often high pressure environment.
  • Read and understand engineering drawings, bills of materials and product/process specifications.
  • Work in a group setting or independently, and be very dependable.
  • Work courteously and tactfully with customers and employees.
  • Operate office equipment such as a copier, fax and printer.
