Job summary

True Anomaly in Long Beach, CA seeks a hands-on Machine Shop Production Engineer to own production engineering strategy from receipt of material to final inspection. You will lead shop operations, drive process optimization, and partner with design engineering to improve manufacturability for high-rate production.

The role requires CNC expertise, AS9100 experience, and strong collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, manufacturing, aerospace engineering or related field.
• Extensive hands-on experience with CNC programming and CAM software.
• Strong understanding of GD&T.
• Experience selecting and commissioning equipment to enable production.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with ability to influence design decisions.
• Experience working to AS9100 processes and standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead machine shop operations to achieve throughput and cost objectives.
• Create detailed manufacturing plans and work instructions for machining, inspection, heat treatment, coating, and outside processing.
• Lead equipment selection, installation, qualification, and maintenance.
• Drive continuous improvement through process optimization and metrics management.
• Collaborate with machinists on machine choice, tooling, and process strategy.
• Lead New Product Introduction and coordinate first-article inspections.
• Drive technical reviews with design engineering to optimize for machining.
• Develop trades and solutions for tooling, fixtures, automation, and equipment.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to machine shop personnel and engineers.
• Drive engagement with Supply Chain to ensure material availability.
• Directly support production on the floor to address non-conformances.

YOUR MISSION

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead machine shop operationstoachieve throughput and cost objectives

• Create detailed manufacturing plans and work instructionsto define sequence,details,andrequirementsfor machining, inspection, heat treatment, coating, and outside processing.

• Lead equipmentselection, installation, qualification,and maintenance activities

• Drive continuous improvementthroughprocess optimization,management ofmetrics,root cause and corrective actions,creation of standards anddocumentation,the management of in-processinventory and consumables.

• Collaborate with machinists to align on machineselection, tooling requirements, work holding, and process strategy.

• Lead new-product introduction,participatein first-time builds, coordinatefirst-article inspections and support process qualifications.

• Drivetechnical reviews with design engineering to ensurethe design isoptimizedformachining

• Developtrades and solutions fortooling,fixtures, automation,andequipment

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to machine shop personnelandengineers

• Drive engagement with Supply Chain to ensurematerials are available

• Directly support production on the floor to ensurenon-conformances are addressed

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical,manufacturing, aerospaceengineeringor related field.

• Experience inmachine shop operationsfor aerospace, defense, or high-reliability systemscommensuratewith the level of responsibility.

• Extensive hands‑on experience with CNCprogramming(Mastercam,NX,Esprit Edge, Fusion360or similar CAM software)

• Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

• Experience in selecting and commissioning equipment to enable production

• Strong communicationand collaboration skills withdemonstratedability to influence design decisions, drive cross‑functional alignment, and present technical information to diverse audiences.

• Experience working to AS9100 process and standards.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Hands‑on experience withCNC machining, inspection methods, mechanical assemblies, and manual fabrication methods (cutting, drilling, shaping)

• Experiencesupporting new product launches or production ramp‑up

• Understanding of surface treatments and finishing processes

• Experience with manufacturing simulation and digital twin technologies

• Familiarity of automation, robotics, and lights‑out manufacturing

• Familiarity with CNCcontrols(Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, etc.)

• Expert‑level understanding of AS9100, PFMEA development, control plans.

• Experience with PLM,ERP,MES,configurationand data managementsystems

• Experience building and producing classified hardware in SCIF’s or SAP facilities

COMPENSATION

Base Salary:

• Machine Shop Production Engineer 3: $120,000-$160,000
• Senior Machine Shop Production Engineer: $140,000-$195,000
• Staff Machine Shop Production Engineer: $160,000-$215,000

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case‑by‑case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job‑related knowledge and skills, education, location, and experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Work Location—Successful candidates will be located near Long Beach, CA. While we observe a hybrid work environment, some work must be done on site.
